Otago Bridge Club
About the Business
Welcome to the Otago Bridge Club, one of the oldest and most esteemed bridge clubs in New Zealand. Established in 1936, our rich history is a testament to our commitment to providing a welcoming and enjoyable environment for bridge players of all levels.
Located on Otaki Street in Dunedin, our clubrooms have been our home since 1975. We take pride in offering two comfortable playing rooms, complete with a spacious kitchen and bar, creating a relaxed atmosphere where players can socialize and enjoy the game they love.
At the Otago Bridge Club, we embrace diversity and cater to players of all ages and skill levels. Our members range from teenagers to nonagenarians, creating a vibrant and inclusive community. Whether you're a beginner seeking your first introductory lesson or a seasoned player looking to challenge yourself against Grand Masters and National Champions, you'll find a place at our club.
One of the unique aspects of our club is the strong presence of University students, injecting youthful energy into our games. Additionally, our clubrooms provide a comfortable and inviting space for more mature players who prefer daytime games and appreciate high standards of behavior.
As an affiliated member of the Otago Southland Regional Bridge, we offer a range of events and competitions to suit every player's preferences. Currently, our club runs in four divisions: Junior, Intermediate, Senior, and Open. We also organize 24-board Teams matches with approximately 20 teams participating on alternate Mondays. For those interested in specific events, we host a Women's Pairs event every second Wednesday afternoon, an allcomers event on alternate Wednesdays, and duplicate pairs every Friday. The table money for these events is $7 per player. Additionally, casual events may be held on weekends during the winter months.
Education is a fundamental aspect of our club, and we take pride in our vigorous educational program. We offer teaching classes for beginners, introductory lectures for novices, and practice sessions for improvers. Our next set of beginner lessons will commence in late February 2024, taking place on Wednesdays from 7 pm to 9 pm for approximately 20 weeks. To pre-enroll or be added to the mailing list for these lessons, please follow the link provided on our website.
Whether you're a local or just visiting, we extend a warm welcome to all visitors. Come and join us at the Otago Bridge Club for a memorable experience filled with camaraderie, competition, and the joy of playing bridge in a supportive and friendly environment.

"Great place to play bridge"
"A great way to learn Bridge by signing up for the 12 weekly (wednesday night) lessons. Great way to meet new people too."
"Excellent, you just need to make sure you have plenty of partners booked otherwise you won't get games!? Damnit! Unfair and costly coz I paid the annual fees any way but I didn't play games annually but I need to get more practice to make better!"
