Established in 1936, Stephenson Transport is a family-owned business that has been serving the rural community with pride and dedication. Our main base is located in the picturesque town of Waipawa in the Central Hawkes Bay, and we also have a bustling depot in Irongate Road East, Hastings.

From these strategic locations, we cater to clients throughout the Hawkes Bay region and the Lower North Island. Our fleet consists of 50 trucks, out of which 30 are specialized livestock units. We place great emphasis on providing consistently excellent service, which means being punctual and ensuring the safe handling of all cargo.

One of our esteemed partnerships is with Mr Apple Limited, one of New Zealand's leading apple producers. We transport bins of apples from their orchards in Tikokino to their export packhouse in Waipawa, and then into their cool stores in Hastings. Last year alone, we transported over 72,100 bins, averaging around 1,200 bins per day. To meet the demands of this contract, we lease up to 14 additional trucks during the season.

In addition to our apple transportation services, we are also proud to offer Deer NZ Accredited Transport services. We understand the unique requirements of transporting deer and ensure their safety and comfort throughout the journey.

Our trucks cover an impressive distance of over 2,580,000 kilometers annually. The busiest period for us is from October to March, which coincides with the apple harvesting season in Hawkes Bay. During an average 12-month period, we transport over 1 million lambs, 600,000 other sheep, and approximately 160,000 head of cattle. As our fleet expands, these numbers continue to grow at a rate of 11% per year.

An interesting aspect of our services is our involvement in transporting livestock from the Chatham Islands. As the closest port to the islands, Napier becomes the gateway for the shipment of livestock to be sold at the Stortford Lodge Sale Yards or processed at meat works in Hastings. We recently secured the contract to service the ship, adding an exciting challenge for our dedicated staff.
