About the Business
Welcome to Doctors Point Reserve, one of Dunedin's best-kept secrets tucked away in the picturesque Blueskin Bay. This hidden gem offers a unique blend of natural beauty and recreational opportunities that will leave you in awe.
As you arrive at the Doctors Point Reserve carpark, you'll be greeted by a sprawling sandy beach that stretches as far as the eye can see. The crystal-clear waters of the ocean and the calm bay create a tranquil atmosphere that is perfect for relaxation and exploration. Take a leisurely stroll along the short walking tracks that wind around the reserve, immersing yourself in the stunning coastal scenery.
One of the highlights of Doctors Point Reserve is the nearby sea caves, which are natural arches formed in the rock cliffs. These enchanting caves offer a fascinating glimpse into the region's geological history. However, please note that they are only accessible during low tide, so plan your visit accordingly. If you venture through the caves, you'll find yourself on another beautiful beach where you can catch sight of Mapoutahi Head, an ancient Maori Pa site with rich cultural significance.
For those with a taste for adventure, Doctors Point Reserve is also a popular spot for gathering shellfish. The bay is teeming with clams, locally known as cockles, providing an opportunity to engage in a traditional Kiwi pastime. Don't forget to bring your bucket and shovel and enjoy the thrill of digging up these delectable treasures.
While visiting Doctors Point Reserve, make sure to explore the surrounding areas. Just a short drive away, you'll find Long Beach and Purakaunui, two other stunning coastal destinations that are well worth a visit. These nearby attractions offer even more opportunities for beachcombing, picnicking, and soaking up the natural beauty of the region.

"Beautiful wild empty easy walk up to the pa"
"This is a nice beach where you can drive up to right next to the beach and park. You need to check the low tide timings and be there around that time for the best look. From the parking, you need to walk towards the open sea (towards right). The caves you come across must not be missed. You can walk right through them towards another beach. Nice views make for great pics."
"Almost didn't go here as I thought it wouldn't be that different to any other Dunedin beach. I was wrong. The scenery was absolutely spectacular and the caves were very cool. Go at low tide so you're not confined to the side."
"Absolutely loved this place! The scenery was spectacular! A lot of wildlife around such as terns, sea lions and it's pup, penguins nesting along the rocks, seagulls, swallows, and some pigeons of some sort. The walk around the beach and near the nesting sights was a lot of fun to walk around, it eventually led to some very amazing hollowed out cave type rocks. Lovely place to go with friends, family, or for just a nice stroll. From the carpark there is a track to lead you out to the right side of the beach or you can walk down to the beach directly. There are some rocks to walk through and over during low tide if you don't want to walk the short track. Just be mindful as rocks are slippery but absolutely walkable."
"Great walk about 10minutes down the beach to the Arches caves you can walk through. Nice walk further down also."
