Tangoio Falls Scenic Reserve tracks
About the Business
Welcome to Tangoio Falls Scenic Reserve tracks, a breathtaking establishment nestled in the heart of Hawke's Bay, New Zealand. As a prominent park and point of interest, this tourist attraction offers an unforgettable experience for nature enthusiasts of all ages.
Located in the picturesque Tutira area, our institution is known for its stunning natural beauty and tranquil surroundings. One of our main highlights is the track that follows Kareaara Stream from the Tangoio Falls parking area to Te Ana Falls, where children can delight in a refreshing splash. Along the way, visitors can immerse themselves in the beauty of the native bush and keep an eye out for koura, the elusive freshwater crayfish, in the crystal-clear streams.
For those seeking a more adventurous experience, we recommend continuing the journey uphill for approximately 15 minutes to reach Tangoio Falls. The awe-inspiring sight of the cascading waterfalls is truly a sight to behold.
Accessing the Tangoio Walkway is convenient, as it can be reached from the picnic and parking areas at either the southern end of Tangoio Falls Scenic Reserve or opposite the White Pine Bush Scenic Reserve. However, if starting at the White Pine car park, caution must be exercised when crossing SH 2 to reach the start of the track.
As you embark on the walkway, you will find yourself traversing through a diverse landscape, including native forests, open grasslands, and a mix of old and new pine plantations, adorned with majestic redwoods and other unique species. Keep your eyes peeled for the enchanting native orchid flowers that bloom in early summer, adding a touch of vibrant color to the scenery. Please note that the track can be steep in certain areas, and after rainfall, extra care is required when crossing streams.
To make the most of your experience, we recommend walking the track from north to south, as the majority of the journey is downhill, allowing you to fully appreciate the surrounding beauty without exerting excessive effort.
Conveniently located just 27 km north of Napier on SH2, Tangoio Falls Scenic Reserve is easily accessible, making it an ideal day trip for locals and tourists alike. Whether you are seeking a peaceful retreat in nature, an opportunity to explore the diverse flora and fauna, or simply a chance to connect with the great outdoors, our institution promises to deliver an unforgettable experience.
Come and indulge in the beauty of Tangoio Falls Scenic Reserve tracks, where nature's wonders await your discovery.

"A short walk from the road following the stream brings you to the waterfall & at the bottom is a swimming hole. Cool, but refreshing on a hot day.."
"Fun easy walk for our little family. More beautiful than expected. Not too long for the small feet. Beautiful bush and wildlife"
"If your taking a trip to see Te Ana falls, then it is well worth the extra 15 minutes each way to see the Tangoio Falls a bit further up the track. From the relatively easy walk to Te Ana falls, the track then heads up for 15 minutes to a lookout over Tangoio Falls. However due to slips under the look out structure the lookout has been closed. There is however a reasonably good view of the Falls on the hillside opposite, without the need to venture onto the platform."
"Scenic walk through native bush to a couple of beautiful waterfalls. There is public toilet (long drop) and plenty of parking in the carpark. The track starts over an impressive timber suspension bridge and follows the stream up to Te Ana Falls and then Tangoio Falls a little further up. The track continues past the falls and goes all the way up to White Pine Scenic Reserve however it is currently closed above Te Ana Falls due to a landslide. Nice spot for a walk."
"Great reserve with 2 walking track options - both are pretty easy so great for families or a walk to a cool off spot in summer. Good facilities available with a long drop style toilet and a covered picnic table. Remember to leave no trace when you visit by not littering. You can also join onto white pine bush (1 hr walk)"
