Humanimals
About the Business
Welcome to Humanimals, a premier establishment in New Zealand that offers exceptional veterinary care for your beloved pets. Located at 44 Rankeilor Street, Dunedin, our institution is not just a health center, but also a point of interest and store for all your pet-related needs.
At Humanimals, we prioritize the well-being and safety of your pets. In line with this, we have introduced our VetChat Service, which diverts all calls to ensure efficient communication and assistance. We understand the importance of water safety for pets, and we provide valuable tips to keep them safe around water.
Due to the ongoing vet shortage and increased workload, we kindly request your understanding and cooperation. Annual exams and vaccinations are currently booking at least a month in advance, with the possibility of longer waiting times. We urge you to plan accordingly to ensure timely care for your furry friends.
Recheck appointments are only necessary when recommended by our veterinarians. Please schedule these appointments during your initial visit or on the day of your pet's procedure. In cases of potential critical conditions, we follow a triage system to prioritize pets based on risk, similar to human medicine.
To better serve our current clients, if we have not seen your pet for an annual check-up in the last three years, we may request you to explore other clinics. Our priority lies in providing the best care to our existing clients. If we offer you an appointment within a few days to a fortnight, please understand that we are at maximum capacity and believe your pet can safely wait to be seen.
For routine procedures like neutering or non-urgent dental work, we have a waiting list in place. As soon as a slot becomes available, we will schedule these procedures accordingly. We kindly ask for three days to approve any prescription requests or medication refills.
Founded by Alistair Newbould in January 1989, our clinic initially operated as Dunedin South Veterinary. However, we have now rebranded as Humanimals, reflecting our belief that animals deserve the same quality care as humans. Our dedicated team of veterinarians, including Michelle Mills, Liz Paton, Kristin Townsend, and Anah Bannister, along with our compassionate veterinary nurses, are committed to providing exceptional care to the pets of Dunedin.
Visit us at 44 Rankeilor Street, South Dunedin, Dunedin 9012, New Zealand, and experience the highest standard of veterinary care for your beloved pets. Thank you for your patience and understanding as we navigate these challenging times to ensure the well-being of all animals in our care.

"As there are very few vets in dunedin and with them taking on the clients of closed down vets these people are doing the best with what they can. Its not easy work with the added stress but i know my cat will always be well taken care of here."
"Impossible to get hold of anyone. Was on hold for an hour+ while my brother was also on his line trying to reach for someone multiple times. Gave up trying with Humanimals, and ended up getting hold of a different vet. Bloody shocking Humanimals, I understand there can be many emergency's on the go, but some communication would've been nice."
"Today was our first time using Humanimals since Mornington Vets merged with them. They were able to make an appointment for our cat the same day we called. My wife was very upset but was immediately calmed and reassured by the kind lady on the front desk. Both the vet (Ellen) and the vet nurse (Alya) were wonderful and took the time to explain to us what the diagnosis was and how they will treat it. Thank you."
"Was were required to make a $1000 payment upfront for a surgery, the dog had to be euthanised before the surgery and after 3 weeks we have still not received a refund after many phone calls. It is very difficult to contact them by phone (up to 45 minutes wait time) and no response to emails. I would defiantly recommend anyone else!!!!!"
"Vets and nurses are super nice and professional enough. But, the booking system is totally a piece of xxxx. Got my cat booked for vaccination, changed appointment twice with wrong cat being registered for that appointment."
