Stopping Violence Dunedin
About the Business
Welcome to Stopping Violence Dunedin, a prominent establishment located at 31 Stafford Street in Dunedin, New Zealand. As a health-focused institution, we are dedicated to supporting individuals in building sound relationships, fostering healthy whānau (family), and creating safe communities.
Our logo, inspired by the concept of "Rua," holds deep symbolic meaning. Rua refers to holes in the ground traditionally used for storing kumara and other food. In our logo, the Rua symbolize the storage place for three baskets of knowledge.
The first basket, Te kete Tuatea, represents the basket of light, containing our present knowledge. It signifies the wisdom and understanding we have acquired over time. The second basket, Te kete Tuauri, represents the basket of darkness, holding the unknown and undiscovered knowledge. It represents the mysteries waiting to be unraveled. Lastly, Te kete Aronui, the basket of pursuit, represents the knowledge that humans currently seek. It represents our ongoing quest for learning and growth.
The spiral in our logo represents Mauri, the life force that animates and binds all things in the physical world. It embodies the energy that flows through us and connects us to our surroundings.
The figurehead of the Manaia, another key element in our logo, represents both human and spiritual beings. The Manaia serves as a guardian of balance and protection. It signifies the harmony between the sky (depicted by the head of a bird), the earth (represented by the body of a man), and the sea (symbolized by the tail of a fish). This balance is vital in our pursuit of healthy relationships and safe communities.
At Stopping Violence Dunedin, we are committed to providing comprehensive support and resources to individuals and families. Our goal is to empower individuals to break the cycle of violence and foster positive change within themselves and their communities.
Join us on this journey towards building sound relationships, nurturing healthy whānau, and creating safe and thriving communities. Together, we can make a difference.
