About the Business
Welcome to The Donald Beasley Institute Inc, located at 248 Cumberland Street in Dunedin, New Zealand. As an esteemed establishment and point of interest, we are dedicated to conducting research and projects on a wide range of disability-related topics and issues. Our team of experienced and emerging disability researchers is committed to supporting the development and capacity of disabled researchers, while employing responsive and inclusive research approaches.
At The Donald Beasley Institute, we present our research and projects through various mediums, including reports, articles, book chapters, and other valuable resources. You can explore our extensive collection of publications on our website, where you will find evidence-based guidelines, case law, and other relevant resources in our collaborative project, Benchmark. This initiative aims to assist legal professionals working with vulnerable individuals in the New Zealand legal system, ultimately increasing access to justice.
We are grateful to the wide range of funders who support our work, and we invite you to learn more about our ongoing research and projects. We are particularly excited to announce the recent launch of the Disability Strategy and Action Plan: Rautaki Hauātanga me te Mahere Mahi by the Southern District Health Board (SDHB) in May 2021. Additionally, our upcoming UNCRPD report on disabled access to housing in Aotearoa NZ is nearing completion, and we look forward to sharing it with you soon.
One of our notable projects is the "Mean As! Project," where individuals with learning disabilities have the opportunity to share their own stories of relationships and sexuality. This initiative aims to empower and amplify the voices of those with learning disabilities, fostering a greater understanding and inclusivity within society.
