Grants Braes Kindergarten

Welcome to Grants Braes Kindergarten, located in the beautiful city of Dunedin, New Zealand. Situated on Belford Street, our establishment is more than just a school - it is a point of interest and a hub for learning and growth.

At Grants Braes Kindergarten, our dedicated teachers believe in creating a warm, caring, and safe environment that empowers and supports children, teachers, families, and whānau (extended family). We understand that every child is unique and we embrace diverse learning pathways to enable them to become confident and competent life-long learners.

Located in the vibrant community of Waverley, we have strong connections with the wider Otago Peninsula community. Our kindergarten acts as a stepping stone for children who transition to Grants Braes School, Macandrew Bay School, Anderson's Bay School, St Brigid's School, and Broad Bay School. We facilitate this transition through our forest program, where the ten eldest children explore a designated area of our city. This program not only encourages a deeper interest in taking care of the natural environment but also fosters independence, observational skills, inquiry, negotiation, friendship building, and the development of essential academic and physical skills.

At Grants Braes Kindergarten, we are fortunate to have the support of enthusiastic and active parents, as well as a dedicated committee of parents who fundraise to provide resources and equipment. As a result, our kindergarten is well-equipped with up-to-date facilities and resources that enhance the learning experience for our children.

Since our establishment in 1953, Grants Braes Kindergarten has grown and flourished. We started in a hall and later moved to our own purpose-built building on Belford Street in 1956. As a non-profit community-based organization, we are governed by an elected Board and are proud members of New Zealand Kindergartens, a national organization that provides us with networking opportunities and access to national expertise.
