At the National Aquarium, we strive to provide an educational and entertaining environment for everyone. We have a range of activities and exhibits that cater to both children and adults. If you're visiting with little ones, be sure to join us for our ocean-themed activities, nature play, stories, and crafts. These sessions are included in your General Admission and take place twice a week, on Monday and Wednesday mornings during term time. Your little explorers will have the opportunity to immerse themselves in nature and learn about the world around them through changing themes.
For a more in-depth and personalized experience, we highly recommend joining one of our guided tours. Led by our knowledgeable guides, you will gain insider knowledge about our native icons such as the kiwi, tuatara, and little penguins. Discover their unique characteristics and the vital role they play in their ecosystem. Our guided tours also provide access to restricted areas, allowing you to witness the hard work that goes on behind the scenes. These tours take place daily at 10:30 am and include general admission, ensuring you make the most of your visit to the National Aquarium.
We are open daily from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm, including public holidays. Please note that the last entry is at 4:30 pm, so be sure to plan your visit accordingly. "My kids liked it so I give it 5 stars. Very nice aquarium for such a small town. Very good day spent with family and a nice different activity to do with your kids. The only thing that bothered me is how incredibly small the sea turtle aquarium is, it's really sad. I'm no turtle specialist but from what I saw during my visit I think she could do with something bigger even if she's alone in there."
"A wonderful experience at the aquarium. My partner and I had a great time wandering through the aquarium seeing all the animals and reading their stories. We finished up with the penguin feeding experience. Our guide was Sam and it was obvious that she really cares for the penguins here. She knew them all by name and we had a great time learning all the penguin personalities while feeding them. I can't recommend it enough"

"My experience was really amazing! Welcoming staff and a nice variety of marine inhabitants. Try to visit it during feeding times to add more experience. Also don't forget to walk around the building to look at graffiti. The only thing is that maybe I would like to see a little bit more of the penguins' area and can't wait till they have sea horses back. But I definitely would like to come back and recommend this place to my friends."
"A great little aquarium. Good displays, and information throughout. Plenty of fish to see as well as penquins. A good sized tunnel going through, with part of the walk way in which moves. Friendly staff. There is a gift shop too with a wide range of things to buy. Worth while experience and great to bring kids along."
