Faculty of Law
About the Business
Welcome to the Faculty of Law at Canterbury University. Our institution, located on the third floor of the Meremere building, is a renowned establishment in New Zealand. As one of New Zealand's leading law schools, we consistently rank among the top 150 law schools worldwide. Our focus is on combining academic rigor with the development of essential legal skills.
At the Faculty of Law, we have built a strong reputation in traditional areas of law, while also offering innovative courses that explore the intersection of law with Antarctica, the media, sport, and medicine. Our unique Criminal Justice qualifications have a strong vocational focus, providing students with opportunities for careers in law enforcement, corrections, offender rehabilitation, working with young offenders, criminal law, security, and border control.
Our dedicated staff take great pride in the achievements of our students and graduates. We are committed to providing a welcoming and supportive environment for all. Whether you are a prospective student or a current one, we encourage you to reach out to us and learn more about the opportunities available within the Faculty of Law.
For those interested in postgraduate studies, our degrees open up a wealth of opportunities both in New Zealand and abroad. Our strong emphasis on real-world experience means that we offer internships, clinics, competitions, and events to provide practical skills and networking opportunities.
Our academics are actively involved in a wide range of research, both individually and through our groundbreaking groups and centers. This ensures that our students are exposed to the latest developments in the legal field.
To foster a sense of community, we encourage students to get involved with our student-led law clubs and societies on campus. These groups organize events, tutorials, and seminars to enhance the overall learning experience.
We would like to extend our congratulations to all our recent graduates from the UC Business School. Your hard work and dedication have paid off, and we are proud of your achievements.
We are also pleased to highlight the success of former Te Aratai College student, Ashlin Chandra, who is thriving in her first year at university and moving closer to her goals.
Additionally, our faculty member, Associate Professor Elizabeth Macpherson, co-writes new research that suggests a need for a rethink on how New Zealand manages its oceans.
We believe that our degrees put students in the best possible position to positively impact the legal system. The opportunity to lead independent projects is something that sets us apart and provides a unique experience for our graduates.
