Welcome to Tai Wananga Kura, an esteemed institution located in the heart of Hamilton, Waikato, New Zealand. As an establishment, point of interest, and school, our primary goal is to empower taiohi (young people) to achieve, contribute, and lead the advancement of Māori culture.

At Tai Wananga Kura, we believe in nurturing confidence and competence in our students. By building on their strengths, passions, values, and character, we aim to foster a culture of leadership. High achievement is at the core of all our kaupapa (principles) and learning experiences, and we have the expectation that every taiohi will succeed.

Our institution provides a safe and stimulating environment where students can pursue their learning in a purposeful and exciting way. We encourage our taiohi to explore the world, discover their own pathways, and innovate solutions. We also prioritize holistic wellbeing, recognizing that learning happens best when the whole person is well and engaged in their body, mind, and soul.

Furthermore, we understand the importance of relationships, particularly whānau (family) support and engagement in the education of our taiohi. We believe that these relationships have a direct impact on student achievement and happiness.

As an institution committed to Māori aspirations, we expect competence in Te Aō Māori (the Māori world) to be evident in all aspects of Tai Wananga Kura. We align our goals with the success of Māori as Māori, ensuring that our students are well-prepared for university study and future employment.

Throughout the year, we host various events and programs to showcase our taiohi's talents and achievements. From the Pūhoro STEM Academy program to the Secondary School Kapa Haka competition, there are ample opportunities for the community to support and celebrate our students.

Beyond academic pursuits, we also offer extracurricular activities such as basketball and outdoor education. Participating in these activities not only promotes physical fitness and health but also develops important skills such as teamwork, collaboration, communication, and trust.

While studying at Tai Wananga Kura, our students also have the opportunity to explore the beautiful destinations of Ruapehu, Waitomo, Auckland, Rotorua, and Taupo. These visits allow them to immerse themselves in the rich cultural and natural heritage of New Zealand.

Whether it's through photography trips to Zoolandia or adventurous outdoor activities like high ropes courses and paintball, we strive to provide our students with unique and enriching experiences that foster their creativity, appreciation for conservation, and personal growth.
