The Redoubt Bar & Eatery
About the Business
Welcome to The Redoubt Bar & Eatery, located on Alexandra Street in the charming town of Te Awamutu, New Zealand. As soon as you step inside, you'll be greeted by walls adorned with local Te Awamutu happenings, tales of the past, and an impressive collection of Jameson whiskeys. The Redoubt prides itself on creating a warm and inviting atmosphere, reminiscent of a comfortable gathering at your mate's place.
Our menu features a delightful selection of classic comfort foods, perfect for satisfying even the hungriest of tummies. Indulge in succulent Aged Steaks, tender Lamb Shanks, or a traditional plate of Fish and Chips. With seasonal menus, there's always something new and exciting to try.
To complement your meal, we offer an extensive range of New Zealand wines, showcasing the best the region has to offer. Beer enthusiasts will be delighted by our fantastic variety, including local brews and international favorites like Heineken. And for those seeking a taste of home, we proudly serve Jameson Irish Whiskey, a beloved beverage that holds a special place in our hearts.
The Redoubt Bar & Eatery was established in 1999 by Michael and Faye Henderson, who sought to defy the prevailing trend of opening Irish, English, or Belgian themed bars. Instead, they created a Kiwi bar infused with local history. But what exactly is a redoubt? In military terms, a redoubt represents a safe haven or a place of refuge. This ideology is at the heart of our establishment, as we strive to uplift and rejuvenate our patrons with good food, cheerful company, and great beer.
Whether you're a local looking for a familiar spot to unwind or a visitor seeking a taste of Te Awamutu's hospitality, The Redoubt Bar & Eatery welcomes you with open arms. Join us for an unforgettable dining experience that combines the best of New Zealandn cuisine, a cozy atmosphere, and a touch of local heritage.

"We ordered our food, the staff were amazing. Had our drinks, food arrived, oh my goodness it was so so so delicious. We went to different cafes for a meal but we will be back wow thank you all for a fantastic lunch. Look at what they have on the walls, history, it was fantastic."
"We were passing through on our way back to Taranaki and both felt like eggs bene. We were greeted as soon as we walked through the door and water was brought straight to our table. We ordered the Eggs Florentine which is very similar to eggs bene. I had fried chicken and my partner had bacon with his. Our plates were delivered to our table within 15 minutes and they were absolutely devine. The waitress asked how our meals were and we were back on the road in no time. I love the signed whisky bottles around the pub. I asked the barman who signs them and he said just random people who take the last shot. Pretty cool. Will definitely return to eat and drink whisky!"
"Amazing meal and service! Was an experience superseding what you would expect from a corner pub in TA. Food was beautifully prepared and tasted amazing!"
"The staff were great, very attentive. We both got the steak med rare with mushroom sauce. The steak was cooked beautifully and the sauces both on the steak and potatoes were delicious. Would definitely go again for the steak or maybe a burger but personally I wasn't interested in the other options on the menu."
"It was a lovely warm dining in experience after a hike up Mt Kakepuku and getting wet. The meals were good but just a bit long to get out and some were warm/cold. The waitress was lovely and served us well."
