Welcome to Kidsfirst Kindergartens Niu, located in Christchurch, Woodham Road, 221. As an establishment, point of interest, and school, we are dedicated to providing the very best in teaching and learning for children aged 0-5 years.

At Kidsfirst Niu, we believe in the importance of family, fun, and friendship. With great child-to-teacher ratios and a small overall group size, we ensure that each child receives the individual attention they need to thrive. Our teachers understand the unique needs of our youngest learners and respect the interests and needs of each child and their family.

We are proud to maintain the lea faka-Tonga (Tongan language) and anga faka-Tonga (Tongan culture) as part of our unique identity. While we place a strong emphasis on Tongan language and culture, you don't have to be Tongan to enroll at our kindergarten. We value the relationships we build with our kainga (family) and embrace our diverse community by celebrating and honoring all Pacific nations.

The Tongan way of being, founded on the Christian faith, is woven into our program through prayer (lotu) and singing (hiva). Love and grace (Ofa) are the foundations of everything we strive to achieve, and our values of humility (loto-to), respect (faka'apa'apa), loyalty (mamahi'i me'a), and maintaining good relationships (tauhi-vaha'a) are seen in the interactions between our teachers, parents, family, and children every day.

We encourage our youngest learners and their families to maintain traditional Tongan values and language through the saying "Pukepuke 'a fufula," even when it gets hard. At Kidsfirst Niu, we are here to support you and your family, as we understand that it is through our relationships that we all learn and grow.

Our teaching team believes in using a talanoa approach when building relationships with families and the community. We value open communication and opportunities to share information between home and our kindergarten, supporting and extending each child's learning. We are fortunate to have a teaching team fluent in multiple languages to support all children in their language development.

We welcome our families, past and present, to be an important part of our kindergarten's life. We encourage kainga (family) to visit and take part in their child's day, sharing their skills and knowledge to enrich our program. Additionally, we have strong links with our local primary schools to support the transition to school for both you and your child.

We recommend enrolling initially for at least two full days, gradually increasing to five days at your child's pace. This allows our teachers to get to know your child and provides consistency in supporting their learning.
