Welcome to CRUZ, a vibrant bar and establishment located at 77 Victoria Street in Christchurch, New Zealand. After enduring the challenges of post-quake years, CRUZ has relocated to their new premises and has expanded into a larger space on the first floor, now featuring a proper nightclub.
Open Wednesday to Sunday from 8pm till 4:30am, CRUZ offers a lively atmosphere with a VJ playing chart and dance favorites from the 70's to the latest releases, Thursday to Saturday. A $5 cover charge is applicable after 10pm on the weekends, increasing after midnight.
The new dance-club, which took 18 months to create, is open on Friday and Saturday nights upstairs. It boasts a dazzling 80's theme, combining classic disco lighting from three decades ago with the latest lighting effects from 2013. The sound system, provided by Tony and Bruce, lives up to the high standards expected by patrons. The space itself is stunning, having been fitted out from scratch.
On weekends, CRUZ maintains a high standard of dress code, encouraging patrons to dress to impress. They value their customers and believe it's time for everyone to showcase their style in the city. CRUZ also offers the best little balcony space in the entire city, providing a view of bustling Victoria Street. It's the perfect spot to demonstrate that the LGBTQ community knows how to dress and party with style.
If you're having trouble finding CRUZ, just look for the rainbow flags flying in the breeze on the corner of Peterborough and Victoria Streets, opposite the Casino. They don't hide themselves away, as they believe in being prominent and proud.
CRUZ would like to express their gratitude for the support they have received in the last three years since the first of the Canterbury earthquakes. Tony and Bruce, who have been operating gay clubs in Christchurch for over 30 years, continue to provide a safe and familiar place for the city's gay community and visitors to our damaged city.

"The only good thing about this place was the bouncer and the barman, clearly the owner has issues with the way he treats his staff and the community. The place is dead and the owner hovers around being strange, it’s a shame this is the main club for the city someone needs to open another venue."

"Bouncers are ironically quite discriminatory. I've been there before no issues. But dressed up in Halloween gear apparently wasn't ok. And my partner who was sobar was accused of being on drugs because of a little fave paint. Do better guys, you look like massive, arrogant hypocrites. Your drinks and entertainment isn't good enough for that. Oh well, plenty of other places to go."
"I think this place gets an unfair level of judgement. We have been several times in the last 2 weeks and always had a really fun night, the downstairs is being refurbished but the upstairs seems to be recently updated. They're open late, have a really good diversity of people that go there, and have friendly staff. Do they charge a door fee? Yes. But lets be honest, if you cant afford $15 to get into a club, maybe its time for you to go home haha."
