At Bay of Plenty Equine Vets, we offer a range of services to ensure the well-being of your beloved horse. This includes vaccinations and worming advice, comprehensive preventative and remedial horse dental treatments, and first aid care for new wounds, including suturing and bandaging.

Our team has extensive experience in lameness diagnosis and treatment, ensuring that your horse receives the best possible care. We also offer microchipping for thoroughbreds and other breeds for identification purposes, as well as upper and lower airway respiratory examinations.

In addition, we provide specialized care for breeding horses, including mortality, prospective foal, newborn foal, and broodmare services. Our manual and ultrasonographic exams are designed to evaluate and monitor the health of your mare and foal.

My name is Orla Roan, and I am the equine veterinarian at Bay of Plenty Equine Vets. With 12 years of experience in New Zealand, Kentucky, and New Zealand, I am dedicated to offering the highest quality veterinary services to horse owners, breeders, and trainers.

I began my journey in Ireland, where I studied equine science, igniting my passion for working with horses. I then came to New Zealand, where I worked in the intensive care foal unit before pursuing a veterinary degree at Massey University with a focus on equine medicine.

During my career, I had the opportunity to complete an internship at Hagyard Equine Medical Institute in Kentucky, a leading equine hospital. This experience gave me invaluable knowledge and skills in providing gold standard medical treatment for horses. I then spent 10 years at Waikato Equine Veterinary Services in New Zealand, gaining a diverse range of experience in managing various equine health issues. More recently, I spent 2 years in New Zealand, specializing in reproduction.
