Hakarimata Summit Tower
About the Business
Welcome to Hakarimata Summit Tower, a must-visit tourist attraction located in the picturesque Hakarimata Scenic Reserve in Ngāruawāhia, Waikato. This establishment is a true point of interest for nature enthusiasts, adventure seekers, and anyone looking to immerse themselves in the stunning beauty of New Zealand.
For those who love a good hike, the Hakarimata Summit Track is a dream come true. Starting from Brownlee Avenue, off Hakarimata Road, approximately 1 km north of Ngaruawahia, this track offers a thrilling adventure through the reserve. As you follow the Waterworks Walk, be prepared to be captivated by the natural wonders that surround you.
The track itself is a well-constructed set of steps and stairs that climb steeply towards the summit. With a total climb of 335 meters and an impressive 1,349 steps, this hike is not for the faint-hearted. However, the effort is truly worth it once you reach the summit tower at a breathtaking 374 meters above sea level.
The Hakarimata Summit Tower offers unparalleled panoramic views that stretch out towards the coast and across the stunning Waikato Basin. On clear days, you might even be lucky enough to catch a glimpse of the majestic Ruapehu in the distance. The tower provides the perfect vantage point to soak in the beauty of the surrounding landscape and appreciate the wonders of nature.
As you make your way along the track, keep an eye out for the scented daphne, Alseuosmia quercifolia, or topara, which grows alongside the path in spring. The fragrant aroma adds an extra touch of magic to your hiking experience, making it even more memorable.
While traversing the narrower parts of the Waterworks Walk, it's important to exercise caution. Falling rocks can be a hazard, especially in inclement weather. It is advisable to keep moving and not linger on these sections for your safety.
Whether you are a seasoned hiker or simply looking for a memorable outdoor experience, Hakarimata Summit Tower is the ideal choice. Immerse yourself in the beauty of the Waikato region and create lasting memories as you conquer the challenging yet rewarding track. Don't miss out on this unique opportunity to connect with nature and witness the breathtaking views that await you at the summit.

"One of my favourite walks. There are over 1300 steps, so either expect to spend a decent amount of time doing the walk, or go up quickly to boost your fitness. Very scenic at the same time"
"Great views from the top. Started from the southern end. Lots of stairs to get there, and steep, but if you take your time it's well worth it."
"My walk started at the north end of Parker road in Huntly, it was a steep climb to begin with and once you got past the southern lookout at huntly end, there was 3-4 hours of rugged climbing with exposed roots making every step harder than a normal track, I would give an extra hour on the trail as it was slow going, give yourself plenty of time for small rests and take plenty of snacks, a spare pair of shoes and socks is recommended. It was hard but I really enjoyed the whole experience!"
"Great view. Worth an hour climb. Quite steep climb on steps."
