Welcome to Steve Gore Counsellor, located at 63 Seventh Avenue, Tauranga, New Zealand. As a Tauranga-based counsellor, I specialize in utilizing post-structuralist and narrative theories in my counselling practice. While these terms may be unfamiliar to you, allow me to explain. Narrative therapy views your life as a collection of "stories" and aims to explore the meanings you have attached to these life events. It operates on the belief that "the person is never the problem, the problem is the problem." In other words, we can often create unhelpful meanings from events (or stories) that continue to shape our lives and intrude upon our present experiences.

In our counselling sessions, you and I will become researchers in your own life, actively seeking out deeply held, unhelpful views and ideas. Together, we will unpack these narratives and lay them to rest, allowing you to move forward with a greater sense of clarity and self-awareness.

It is important to note that counselling is a confidential and private relationship. Our time together in this room is isolated from the rest of your life and the people in it. This means that you can feel safe and comfortable revealing anything, knowing that it will stay strictly within the confines of our sessions (with a few exceptions, which can be found on our booking page). This confidentiality creates a space for you to freely explore your thoughts, feelings, and experiences, enabling us to quickly delve into the heart of what is truly going on for you.
