Riverlea Theatre has a rich history dating back to 1933 when it was established by the visionary Walter Russell-Woodare. As one of the oldest repertory societies in the Waikato region, Hamilton Playbox has been a driving force behind our institution's success. We continue to honor our heritage by fostering a vibrant and inclusive environment for theatre enthusiasts of all ages and backgrounds.
Throughout the year, we offer a variety of drama and musical theatre classes facilitated by experts from the community. These classes, which run in Terms 1-3, provide aspiring theatre makers and artists with valuable training and the opportunity to hone their craft. We believe that community theatre is an essential stepping stone for those seeking to pursue a career in the performing arts.
At Riverlea Theatre, we are proud to have a dedicated Board comprised of volunteers from both the theatre and wider community, as well as representatives from each of our resident societies. This diverse group meets bi-monthly to discuss matters regarding the venue and ongoing fundraising ventures for the theatre's upgrade. We are committed to creating a space that meets the evolving needs of our patrons and performers.
