About the Business
Welcome to Pier Law - Northwood, located at Christchurch, Radcliffe Road, 1. As an establishment and point of interest, our institution is dedicated to helping individuals and businesses make the most of the law.
At Pier Law, we pride ourselves on providing comprehensive and client-centered legal services. Our team consists of experienced lawyers, legal executives, and support staff who work together to ensure that each client's needs are understood and met effectively.
We understand that our clients value a combination of creative problem-solving and practical advice. We believe that paperwork should follow and flow from problem-solving, not the other way around.
Indira, one of our Directors, began her legal career by following in the footsteps of her father and grandfather in their family law practice. After migrating to New Zealand, she was admitted to the bar in 1994. Indira has worked at Community Law Canterbury and served as a Legal Advisor for the Ministry of Consumer Affairs. In 2003, she purchased Strowan Law and later joined Pier Law following a merge of the two practices.
Lisa, our Senior Associate, graduated from the University of Canterbury with a BA in Psychology and LL.B (Hons). She joined Strowan Law before becoming a valuable member of the Pier Law team in 2021. Lisa has a strong interest in family law and is passionate about providing legal aid. She is known for her friendly and outgoing nature, and she enjoys building long-lasting relationships with her clients.
Bill, the founder of our firm, specializes in business, commercial and residential property, asset protection, trusts and estate planning, and family law matters. He is not your typical old-school lawyer. Bill is known for his down-to-earth manner, friendliness, and approachability. He engages with his clients with frankness and integrity.
Caroline is another exceptional member of our team. She is diligent and precise in her work, but also possesses a down-to-earth personality, great people skills, genuine empathy, and a 'can do' attitude. Caroline primarily focuses on property law and family trusts, with a particular interest in assisting first home buyers and young families.

Reviews
"quite useless at their job, poor communication, slack, as a paying customer you might think that makes you important, well it doesn't."
"UPDATE: It has since come to my attention that I have been charged for work that hasn't been done. Having family write false positve reviews to counter the negative isn't a great look and shows that this law firm has no qualms acting deceptively. (See Holly Walters, sister of Casey Walters, review). ------------------------------------------------------------ I felt completely let down by this law firm. The lawyer engaged, (Casey Walters) took absolutely no interest in my case. There was no attempt for a meeting or even a phone call. I was asked to sign documents to which she had completely fabricated the contents in complete contrast to my instructions. Instructions would be ignored and I felt berated when raising the point. "interim invoice from period (dates removed) for time spent as follows, receipt of inquiry from website" The firm believes charging for your initial inquiry on their website is an acceptable practice (see above extract from initial invoice) A relatively minor charge no doubt, yet a strong indication to the firms motive, which is clearly focused on a maximum billing outcome rather than an outcome in your best interest. I've no doubt, from my experience the outcome is at the very best a secondary concern for the firm. If you are seeking guidance and advice from a helpful and friendly law firm, based on my experience this isn't the firm."
"I had a great experience with Pier Law. i have been going through a dispute with my previous landlord, who was being unfair about returning by bond. I had been to many different places to try and resolve the issue (Community Law Center, Tenancy Services, Citizens Advice Bureau) but none of them helped and I was getting more stressed out. I used Pier Law after a friend recommended them to me. Casey and Bill gathered together all of my information and correspondences with the previous landlord and thoroughly got to the bottom of the issue. I was prepared a document for the tenancy tribunal containing everything i needed to adequately answer any question from the judge. I was very nervous about tribunal so this helped immensely. I won the case and received all of my bond back which i was thrilled about. Overall, i am very happy with the service i got from Pier Law."
"Great service would recommend Pier Law to family and friends"
"We used Pier Law for a simple sale and purchase agreement. A problem arose and an opinion was sought from the principle, Bill. Following his advice, I found myself being summoned to court by the new owners. The whole experience was deeply distressing for me and my family. Pier law actually charged me to resolve the problem they had created, and had the gall to attempt to get me to sign a form stating I would not pursue the matter any further."
