Reviews of Tokki
"Service was great ! To be honest I haven't had this much good service in Korean restaurant in auckland. However. Food wasn't that impressive. It was okay. Crispy egg plant was good but not sure if it's Korean style... also flat noodle. Not sure about it. And maybe try not to over use soy sauce for dishes. Some dishes taste pretty similar... And portion sizes.. would be better if it's little bigger. Also I think just two individual piece of bites will be better for customers then one cut in half or quarter.. By the way I can give 10 stars for melona s more ✨️ it was real good !!"
"After searching for restaurants and seeing such highly rated reviews, I decided to dine at Tokki. We got the house menu priced at $80pp. First of all, the ambience and service is amazing. The main waiter is very professional and attentive. No complaints there. HOWEVER, all the dishes were absolutely disappointing and I couldn’t believe this was the what we were paying $200 for (including drinks). This restaurant is definitely catered towards white folks who don’t have an idea of Korean/Korean fusion food or rich Milford residents. The ‘green salad’ in the house menu was literally 5 pieces of lettuce that wasn’t even cut up properly, drenched in sesame dressing. The ‘tokki ssam’ is just a few pieces of cold galbi meat on rice and lettuce. The ‘hwe’ was ruined from being drenched in mustard sauce. You cant even taste the freshness of the raw fish. The ‘flat noodles’ were so oily and not a good mix with the dwenjang sauce and the mince was so hard. The only thing good on the house menu was the crispy eggplant. I cant believe how expensive this place is for the quality AND tiny quantity of food. I will never return here because of how underwhelming and disappointed I was. There are way better Korean/Korean fusion restaurants in Auckland. You pay so much only to leave super hungry. Not worth at all."
"Fantastic dinning experiences. We were lucky to get to sit at the bar watching the food plating. Nathan, the chef at the bar was very friendly and attentive. He patiently explained the dishes to us and answered our questions. The duty manager Masashi was awesome and super accommodating. It was hard to pick our favorite dish from their set menu. I would say the raw fish with Korean mustard, Beef tartare with potato fritter, and Baechu Bojagi (cabbage roll) are the highlight of the set menu for me. The featured dish would be their Crispy Chicken Wing, highly recommended."
"Loved it! Don’t you love it when the owner isn’t only the chef cooking your food but also the one that brings it to your table and talks about it. To me, that’s what dining out is about. Jason and the team are super friendly and keep the conversation on an equal level, where you’re a guest in their house so everyone deserves the same level of respect and that’s special. Tokki is small in size but big on personality. All of the flavours are authentic but approachable. Amazing wine list, we had a bottle of really cool Japanese pet-nat and it was delish! We went for the degustation, as we don’t like to read when we go to eat. We knew that the food will be good so going for a deg is always a great choice, it makes it easier for the team and more relaxing for you. I’d love to eat here once a week, so better get rich fast."
"Simple, done ridiculously well. There's nothing really negative I can say about Tokki, except for me wishing it was more of a reasonable Uber-ING distance from home so I could've explored their whisky selection. My problem, not theirs. We tried the famed Raw Fish, with the delectable mustard sauce, and it did not disappoint. The fish, snapper that day, was soft and very much a melt-in-your-mouth experience. The sauce, slightly tangy, with a slight kick that's reminiscent of wasabi/horseradish, was a perfect match, generously topped with... A green garnish. (I am terrible at recognising herbs - I think it was chives). Clean, and satisfying, but also more-ish, I could've hoovered that plate to myself. The flat noodle dish in a gochujang sauce, with toasted pork mince was the epitome of simple, done ridiculously well. There was a somethin' somethin' about it that I just know I can't recreate at home. It was a flavour bomb, despite looking so simple. Another dish I could've hoovered on my own. The fried chicken wing, Stuffed with prawn was another winner. Perfectly fried, but not greasy, that chicken was super tender and juicy. It was served with a rich mushroom gravy dipping sauce, which I didn't think would work so well as the chicken was already quite rich - but it did. Good portion to share between two. At this point we reckon we could handle one more dish and we picked the fried eggplant. No regrets there. Perfectly deep fried, without that sickly after effects a fried eggplant can sometimes result in. It was sweet, it was crunchy, it moreish. Service was on point. Our server was knowledgeable, but mostly left us to our devices. Though somehow knew the perfect time to offer another drink. The token sweet handmade chocolate treat at the end was the perfect end to our night. Solid wine selections, though I wish they had some more by the glass. All in all, an amazing experience. We will have to come back to try the Chefs Menu. And the range of whiskies, and high balls."
