About the Business
Welcome to Manurewa High School, the largest high school in South Auckland, located at 67 Browns Road, Auckland. As the current Principal, I am proud to serve our community and provide an exceptional educational experience for our students.
At Manurewa High School, we have over 2100 students who come from diverse cultural backgrounds. Our student body is made up of 50% Pasifika, 33% Māori, 12% Asian, and 2% from other backgrounds. We celebrate this cultural diversity and believe it enriches our learning environment.
As an educator, I bring a wealth of experience to Manurewa High School. I hold a BA from Liverpool University, a PGCE from Birmingham University, and an MSc in Educational Leadership from Manchester Metropolitan University. Additionally, I completed the University of Auckland Business School NZLI Executive Leadership course in 2017. Before joining the school, I taught in Manchester for 10 years and also worked as a Director of Ralph Capper Interiors, specializing in interior fit-outs for various establishments.
My vision for Manurewa High School is to provide a culturally sustaining curriculum that is relevant to all our students. We prioritize their interests and passions, preparing them for a successful future where they can embrace their identity and heritage with confidence.
In my personal life, I enjoy watching and supporting my favorite football club, Liverpool. I also cherish quality time with my wife of over 30 years, Justine, and our three boys, Billy, Sam, and Joe. Staying fit is another aspect of my life that I prioritize.

"I was a bookish kid with zero interest in sports. In my first year (3 Pro 1, class of '66), the deputy head Skip Brown called me to his office and told me that if I didn't play rugby for the school I would, in his words, "not get on very well around here." I didn't play rugby and I assume that this was the reason I was caned viciously and repeatedly for serious offences like running in the hall, talking in class (many of these!), being in the general vicinity when someone laughed at the headmaster, all the way up to possession of cigarettes. Eventually, seeing no value in a Manurewa High School education, and rather than bend over for yet another pointless and painful beating, I walked out. My parents were sent a letter saying I had been expelled. That is not true – I had already walked out! My father and the head were both old soldiers and I was persuaded to go back, but by then my girlfriend was pregnant and I had other responsibilities... That was then. I sincerely hope that MHS is a more enlightened institution now."

"Worse school ever don't recommend sending your child there it was my biggest mistake. Why? My child was one of the lucky ones been bullied there and they did nothing about it. Don't send your children there. There are some good teachers there I'm not saying that but, somehow things are not put right there-kids are getting bullied there, and it's been on the news and now another student passed away, what gives??"
