Welcome to Gear Eatery and Bar at Gear Homestead, located on Okowai Road in Porirua, New Zealand. As an establishment and point of interest, we strive to provide a unique and memorable dining experience for our valued customers.
Unfortunately, due to the global shortage of hospitality staff, we have made the difficult decision to temporarily close our cafe from Sunday 4th December 2022. This decision was not taken lightly, and we apologize for any inconvenience caused. We appreciate your understanding and support during these challenging times.
While our cafe may be temporarily closed, we are still available for corporate and function venue hire. If you are looking for a picturesque and versatile location for your next event, please reach out to us at manager@geareateryandbar.co.nz for availability and further information.
Although we may be taking a break from our regular cafe operations, we want to assure you that we are working diligently behind the scenes to bring you exciting updates in the New Year. Stay tuned for announcements and be prepared for an even better dining experience when we reopen.

"This place is always a treat. The view and atmosphere is worth it, and the food and service are always wonderful. Serving sizes are generous, and cost for the volume of food is good value. I was pleasantly surprised at the beverage list, great range and the quality of liquor and cocktails for a local Eatery is really nice. Not just function or venue location, although the upstairs and private dining area would be great. I am excited for the warmer weather to enjoy the beverages outside in their courtyard or bean bags. This is very family friendly, and I would recommend booking as it gets busy fast!"
"Good fortune coffee, ✔️ BEAUTIFUL Fresh Cream Doughnut, with a good amount of Jam throughout! Lots of sweet treats. Some savoury too! Good customer service. "Just divine. We came here just for the buttermilk cheddar scone and oh boy was it worth it. Crispy outside, fluffy on the inside, this humble scone is not to be underestimated and lives up to its reputation as the best scone in town."
"Was really looking forward to try the new place, purposely avoided the first few opening weeks. Went in last Friday to have lunch, food was 4/5; service was 1/5 for what we have paid for. Although the pace is new new, however feeling like we are paying for the staffs that their mind are not quite there with it. Very slow serving! We have to go to the counter 4 times to get a table, a table number, our order and back to find out where and when we will be getting our food. Spot was 5/5; Kids friendly 5/5 I hope things will never getting better for future given it is still new hence the reason why rated 3/5."
