Education Council
About the Business
Welcome to the Education Council's webpage! We are an establishment and a point of interest located at 80 Boulcott Street in Wellington, New Zealand. Our institution is dedicated to ensuring that all teachers in Aotearoa are qualified, capable, and ethical professionals.
At the Education Council, we believe that teachers have a professional obligation to develop strong relationships with a diverse range of learners and their families, and to maintain and raise professional standards. We offer various online services, such as registration, recertification, application tracking, and report submission, to make the process easier for teachers.
As the professional body representing teachers in early childhood education, primary, and secondary schooling, the Teaching Council | Matatū Aotearoa plays a crucial role in supporting and advocating for teachers.
If you're interested in becoming a teacher in New Zealand, we have a brief video overview that will guide you through the registration and certification process. You can also view or print out your current practising certificate anytime using our online platform, Hapori Matatū.
We are proud to present the Chief Executive of the Teaching Council, Lesley Hoskin, who takes the time to answer questions from the teaching profession. Her insights and expertise are invaluable resources for teachers.
In addition to our regular services, we have various initiatives that support teachers in their professional growth. Unteach Racism is one such initiative that helps teachers identify, confront, and dismantle racism in education. We encourage you to take the first four steps today and be a part of this important movement.
As teachers fall under the category of 'government servants,' it is essential for them to understand what is expected of them in the build-up to a general election. We provide information and resources to help teachers navigate this process.
In our latest issue, you'll find Lesley's Q&A, discussions on improving Initial Teacher Education, updates on the Rauhuia Symposium series, and much more.
Lastly, we would like to express our gratitude to everyone who participated in the Rules survey in March. The changes based on your feedback will come into effect on 29th July, amending the previous (2016) rules.
If you have any questions or need further information, please visit us at Level 11, 7 Waterloo Quay, Pipitea, Wellington 6011, NZ. We look forward to serving you and supporting your journey as an educator.
