Island Bay Divers
About the Business
Welcome to Island Bay Divers, the premier dive store in Wellington City. With over 35 years of experience, we are your go-to destination for all your scuba diving needs. Whether you're a beginner looking to learn how to dive or an experienced diver in need of equipment and services, we've got you covered.
At Island Bay Divers, we offer a comprehensive range of dive services, including scuba dive classes and training, dive trips, and equipment sales. Our team of experienced dive instructors will guide you through the process of becoming a certified diver, ensuring that you receive the highest quality training available. We even include more sea dives in our Wellington Openwater course than any other dive school in the area.
One of the standout features of Island Bay Divers is our state-of-the-art compressor, the largest in Wellington. This means you won't have to wait around for tank fills, allowing you to get back in the water quickly and easily. Additionally, we offer a 24-hour turn around on all tank testing, ensuring that your dive gear is always ready for your next adventure.
Join our club dives and 4WD trips to the South Coast and Kapiti, weather permitting, every week. This is a great opportunity to explore new dive sites and expand your diving skills. As a member, you'll have access to insider knowledge about the best dive spots in Wellington.
In addition to our dive services, we also provide air cylinder testing, dive equipment hire, and have a wide range of new equipment for sale. Our extensive inventory includes drysuits, wetsuits, cylinders, spearfishing gear, and free diving equipment. Whatever you need for your diving experience, you can find it at Island Bay Divers.
We understand that convenience is important, which is why we have flexible hours to accommodate your schedule. We are open 5 days a week from 9am to 6pm, closed on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. We are also open every weekend and public holiday, except for Easter Friday and Easter Sunday.
For snorkelers, we have launched a new website called gosnorkel.co.nz. This site is specifically designed for beginners and provides information on snorkeling sites within the Taputeranga Marine Reserve.
Unfortunately, the SeeseaTV marine u/w cam and Vic University cam are currently down. We apologize for any inconvenience and will update you as soon as they are back online.
Come visit us at Island Bay Divers and experience the best that Wellington's diving community has to offer. Dive into an underwater world of adventure with the experts in scuba diving.

"Great team making learning to dive an awesome experience. Tim and the team were welcoming, knowledgeable and made the open water course a great experience, and provided everything needed as well as great advice and guidance. Instructor Pablo and his team were awesome, very easy to deal with and really looked after everyone and made the learning fun...looking forward to a bunch more dives with them!"
"I would 100% recommend to anyone sceptical about getting their Open Water Dive license to do it through Island Bay Divers. Not only do they have the best deal in regards to the pricing of the course (you get 7 extra dives covered by the cost of the course), but the team truly cares about their students, which takes the stress away from messing up when learning new skills. Tim is also extremely knowledgeable and has been beyond helpful in regards to me hiring/buying gear for various underwater exploits. Overall, you really can't get better than Island Bay Divers - they should be your first stop for anything dive-related in Wellington!"
"Recently went on their new guided snorkel tour offering (affectionately known as the snorkel tourkel) and it was great! I got to see lots of paua, fish, and a crayfish in the Taputeranga Marine Reserve. The water is very cold though, so I recommend choosing the thickest wet suit if you get cold easily. The hot drinks and biscuits (aka cookies for Americans) at the end were a really nice touch."
