About Awhitu District School
Welcome to Awhitu District School, a well-established full rural primary school located in the beautiful Āwhitu area of New Zealand. Our school caters to students from New Entrants to Year 8 and is a point of interest for both locals and visitors.
At Awhitu District School, we are committed to providing a motivating and engaging curriculum that focuses on individual learning journeys, our environment, and our PRIDE values. Our dedicated teachers create a caring and stimulating environment where students can thrive academically and personally.
One of the unique aspects of our school is the combination of rural living and innovative teaching and learning practices. We embrace inquiry-based learning, a blended eLearning approach, and personalized learning to ensure that every student receives a high-quality education tailored to their needs.
Our school community is supported by an active Board of Trustees and PTA who work tirelessly to provide wonderful resources that enhance students' learning and experiences. We are proud of our PRIDE values, which form the basis of our School Vision. These values are prominently displayed throughout our school, reminding us of the importance of caring, adapting, and succeeding.
Our PRIDE Matrix, developed by students and staff, outlines the expectations for each value in various school settings. It serves as the foundation for our weekly Values lessons, instilling the importance of integrity, respect, perseverance, diversity, and excellence in all aspects of school life.
You will notice our stunning PRIDE panels displayed in the heart of our school. These panels depict animals, wildlife, trees, and environments that hold significance to the Awhitu area and represent our PRIDE values. Each panel tells a story, from early morning to night, showcasing the strength, determination, beauty, and curiosity that these animals embody.
Many of the animals chosen by our students have symbolic meaning within Māori culture. For example, the Hammerhead shark represents strength and determination, while the Fur Seal symbolizes exploration and curiosity. The Albatross and Heron hold mythical status for Māori due to their rarity and beauty.
In addition to our academic programs, we also offer delicious and affordable lunch options, with prices starting at $2.50. Our Skool Loop App makes it easy for parents to stay connected with the school, providing important updates and information at their fingertips.
We invite you to explore our website and discover more about Awhitu District School. Whether you are a current student or considering enrollment, we are confident that you will find our school to be a welcoming and nurturing environment where students can thrive and reach their full potential.
