Secret Thai Garden
About the Business
Welcome to Secret Thai Garden, a family-owned and operated restaurant located in the heart of Otahuhu, Auckland. Our establishment is more than just a restaurant; it is a point of interest and a must-visit destination for food enthusiasts.
Secret Thai Garden was born out of a passion for authentic Thai cuisine. The owners, Aranya (also known as Tommy) and Nobby, wanted to bring the flavors and dining experience of Thailand to New Zealand. Tommy, a trained chef from Surat Thani, Thailand, and Nobby, a Kiwi born in Auckland, joined forces to create a truly unique dining experience.
As you step into Secret Thai Garden, you will immediately be transported to the vibrant streets of Thailand. The outdoor teak furniture, carefully selected from Changmai in Northern Thailand, adds a touch of authenticity to the ambiance. Each piece of furniture has its own unique history, and you can feel the craftsmanship in every detail.
Our journey to create Secret Thai Garden began in 2001, and after years of planning and preparation, our dream came to life in August 2003. With the help of our friend Christopher, we meticulously planted and landscaped our garden to create a serene and enchanting atmosphere.
If you are planning a special event or private function, Secret Thai Garden is the perfect venue. Our Set Menu option is highly recommended for groups of 20 or more, ensuring quick and efficient service. For group bookings of 15 or more, we require a $10 per seat deposit, which will be deducted from your final bill on the night. We also have a 14-day cancellation policy for full refunds.
We invite you to immerse yourself in the atmosphere of our Secret Thai Garden, where you can enjoy authentic Thai cuisine in a truly unique setting. Whether you are looking for a casual dining experience or a memorable event, our restaurant is the ideal choice. Come and join us for an unforgettable journey through the flavors of Thailand.

"Very unique interior with lots of lights and decorations, don't see many restaurants like this around! Food took a while to come out, waited for around half an hour but it wasn't bad enough to say that it wasn't worth the wait. Would recommend for the unique vibes, but not when you are super hungry! Great tasting dishes! Some of the staff were a bit shy and don't say much when you ask them a question, the rest are okay though~"
"Good vegan options! Although the pepper garlic tofu was very bland. The vege pad Thai was very good. $7 corkage for BYO which is very reasonable. The food was a good portion size. The service was a little slow but th food came out very quickly after we ordered. The place is beautiful and decorations are awesome. Night time dinner I would suggest bringing a jacket as it was quite cold even with heaters."
"Been coming here for years. My family really enjoy this place and we have had multiple birthdays here. It's such a beautiful place and definitely one of the most prettiest places to eat in South Auckland. It feels like your in another country. We usually get the set menu because it's so much easier when you have a big group. Food is great and the portions are perfect too. I love how they have ice cream now, they used to only give fruit but now have a few ice cream dishes to pick from, which is perfect for the kiddies. Will continue coming for more celebrations."
"The decoration and atmosphere is amazing very special. Service was relatively quick but flat / not very friendly. Food was "okay". E.g Pad Thai was slightly over cooked."
