About the Business
Welcome to Pararaha Campsite, nestled in the picturesque Pararaha Valley within the stunning Waitākere Ranges Regional Park in Auckland, New Zealand. As a campground, establishment, lodging, park, and point of interest, Pararaha Campsite offers a unique and immersive outdoor experience for nature enthusiasts and adventure seekers.
Situated at the foot of a hill, our grassed campground provides a serene and peaceful environment surrounded by the breathtaking beauty of the bush. The open shelter serves as a gathering place where you can relax and enjoy the tranquility of the surroundings.
One of the highlights of staying at Pararaha Campsite is the opportunity to explore the nearby scientific reserve owned by the Department of Conservation (DOC) and managed by Auckland Council. Take a walk through this reserve and be rewarded with awe-inspiring views of the coastal dunes and wetlands.
To ensure the preservation of our natural environment, we kindly ask all visitors to clean their footwear and equipment to prevent the spread of diseases between different areas. Additionally, please be aware that there are track and road closures in place, and access to the campground is only possible via the beach route at low to mid-tide from Whatipu. Vehicle access is not available.
Getting to Pararaha Valley campground can be done by foot, either starting from Whatipū or Karekare. From Whatipū, embark on a 2.5-3 hour hike via Gibbons and Muir Tracks, and you can return the same way or opt for a scenic coastal walk. From Karekare main carpark, it is a 1.5 hour walk around Karekare Point at low to mid-tide only. Follow Whatipu Beach south and head inland at Tunnel Point, then continue along the edge of the swamp and Pararaha Valley Track to reach the campground.
Please note that bookings for the campgrounds can only be made up to six months in advance, and availability refreshes at midnight daily. Group bookings are limited to a maximum of 10 people from 17 December to 31 January, and a maximum of 30 people from 1 February to 16 December.
During your stay at Pararaha Campsite, it is essential to conserve water as our supply is limited. The water provided is from tanks, and we recommend boiling it for at least three minutes before use. We kindly request that you keep your campsite clean and tidy throughout your stay and dispose of all rubbish and recycling properly, as there are no bins or rubbish disposal facilities available.

Reviews
"The best spot to camp on the trail!"
"Lovely campsite. Very sad that it's closed down"
"A nice remote camp site in the waitakere! It was far enough to not have too many campers. There is a lovely swimming hole not too far from the camp. The view all around the camp is superb. Native trees lines the ravine give the feeling of living in a prehistoric NZ. Prepare for mosquitoes in the evenings as there are plenty of it."
"Great spot for a swim"
"Delightful little campsite next to a lovely fresh water stream. You need to hike in. Campsite has three grass levels to it with a shelter for cooking your food and a nice wooden bench table to eat at and hear the Tui's sing."
