Kitekite Falls
About the Business
Welcome to Kitekite Falls, also known as Kitakita Falls, located in the stunning Waitakere Ranges Regional Park in Auckland, New Zealand. This magnificent 40-meter waterfall is a must-visit tourist attraction, situated near the famous Piha Beach.
To reach the falls, you can embark on a relatively easy 30-minute walk along the Kitekite Falls Track. The trail offers breathtaking views of the falls and provides benches along the way for you to rest and take in the natural beauty. Please exercise caution on the slippery stairs during the descent.
Kitekite Falls is conveniently located just an hour's drive from Auckland City, with a well-maintained sealed road leading to the destination. Simply follow the road to Piha, turn right into Glenesk Rd, and continue for approximately 1 kilometer until you reach the parking area. The car park offers toilets and a few tables, and there is an overflow parking option a short distance before the main car park.
At the base of the falls, you'll find a refreshing swimming spot, perfect for a dip to cool off. Don't forget to bring a towel! After enjoying your time at the falls, you have a few options for your return journey. You can either retrace your steps back to the car park, cross the stream (which may require wet-shoes), and follow the Kitekite Falls Track back to the car park, or choose a more challenging track that leads to the top of the waterfall. If you opt for the latter, make sure you have appropriate tramping shoes. The climb to the top takes approximately 15 minutes and rewards you with stunning views of the valley and additional swimming spots.
Before starting or finishing your walk, please utilize the cleaning station to help maintain the pristine environment of the park.
Kitekite Falls offers a range of experiences suitable for all fitness levels. Whether you're looking for a short and leisurely walk, a refreshing swim, or a thrilling adventure to the top, Kitekite Falls has something for everyone. So come and immerse yourself in the natural beauty of this enchanting attraction.

"The trail is very well marked and maintained with different options to approach the bottom of the waterfalls clockwise or counterclockwise, and an offshoot to climb the "stairs" to the very top of the falls. Absolutely beautiful and conveniently close to Auckland for a day hike."
"Great sight to see, if you can brave the cold water I suspect it would be great to swim in the small pool under the falls. If you take the left path there's LOTS of steps, taking the right pah is probably just as steep but takes you down a little stairway to the water, just a little to the side of the falls. Easy enough to cross to be in front. You'll understand when you're there"
"Beautiful walk to the falls. Paths are very well maintained & sign-posted. Plenty of free parking for all sizes of vehicles including campers. Recommended for all ages."
"Breathtaking views and absolutely lovely walking trail, beautiful, clean, and well maintained with a bit of history information. Our kids are 4, 8, and 15, and this was easy enough for all of them. We all had a blast. There are places where you can have a quick bite as well."
"Beautiful waterfall, well maintained paths. Quite a few stairs, but at a slow pace it's manageable even for those who have low fitness. Parking is free and plenty big enough for our camper."
