Piha Store
About the Business
Welcome to Piha Store, located on Seaview Road in Auckland, New Zealand. Our establishment is a unique combination of a food store, point of interest, and a must-visit destination for locals and tourists alike.
Piha Store is situated on the famous Piha Beach, known as New Zealand's most renowned surf beach. Located on the west coast of the North Island and just 40 kilometers away from the bustling city of Auckland, this black iron-sand beach offers awe-inspiring surf that rolls in over the Tasman Sea. The power and force of the waves are so strong that even canoes were snapped in two during the Uncle Toby's Iron Man contest held here in 1997.
Piha Beach is a place of natural beauty that can be moody, misty, and mysterious. The wild, wet, and wind-swept environment adds to the beach's allure. Living in this area requires resilience and a spirit for adventure, as power outages, fallen phone lines, and blocked roads are not uncommon occurrences.
The unique black sand of Piha Beach is both a blessing and a challenge. While it may burn your feet in summer, it dries to a crunchy biscuit crust and seems to get everywhere. However, the surf at Piha Beach is truly a force to be reckoned with, sounding like a war going on out at sea.
Piha Beach is not only a stunning natural wonder but also a rich source of stories about people, places, and events. At Piha Store, you can discover and order books that delve into the history and tales of Piha and the Waitakeres, allowing you to immerse yourself in the local culture and heritage.
Once heavily logged for its precious kauri, rimu, and kahikatea trees, Piha Beach has since healed its scars. Now, the majestic kauri trees stand tall, poking their conical heads above the lush vegetation of puriri, mamaku, and nikau. Houses nestle harmoniously among the natural landscape, creating a picturesque and serene environment.
At Piha Store, we invite you to experience the beauty, power, and stories of Piha Beach. Whether you are a surfer seeking the thrill of the waves or a nature enthusiast looking to explore the rich flora and fauna, Piha Store is your gateway to this extraordinary destination.

Reviews
"Second time I’ve been to the store and this will be the last. The first time I left without ordering anything due to the rude and urging comments from the owner/man behind the counter. I came back a few months later, thinking they must have had a bad day… I guess not, the owner was still as rude, urging customers to make orders and making fun of them for taking the time to pick what they are going to eat AND to spend their money on."
"I got two moldy egg pies, mold under the pastry top. The mold was hidden under the pristine pastry top accidentally noticing the mold when I was taking a bite. I peeled back the top of the pastry and found mold in the middle. Fail and unsafe. Check your pies for mold. I will just add after that response by owner : I had two moldy egg pies and vomited, I sent photos to council and complained, I have NEVER reviewed or commented on this except this single review above. And so its not hate speech, truth is you shouldn't have given me moldy pies. And you probably don't want me to look up the photos which I probably still have. I know exactly how I got two moldy pies - you should ask your staff."
"Popped into the store a couple weeks back to grab a coffee before a beach walk , the older guy behind the till was quite obnoxiously rude at the checkout. I assume he gets away with the awful customer service because that store is the only game in town which is a real shame. Judging by his responses to the reviews on google he seems to take pleasure in winding people up, which is pretty gross… hopefully another store opens up in the area, then he’ll really be able to see what an toxic attitude like that gets him."
"Perfect corner store in Piha. All your diary favourites, with a real focus on local produce and sustainable goods. Coffee is excellent and lovely outdoor seating areas."
"This is the only store to purchase groceries, supplies, and snacks in Piha. It is only a few minutes walk or drive from the beaches, and directly across the street from the campground and public toilets. They have a lot of the basics- canned goods, fresh baked goods and desserts, bread (including fresh baked bread), ice cream, frozen food, and fresh made pies. The prices are a little high, as expected so far away from other options. They will make fresh wraps, salads, or sandwiches at their deli bar for you, and even toast them on their sandwich presses, if you like. They have a full coffee bar, too. They have plenty of organic, non-dairy, vegetarian and vegan options available. The staff is pretty helpful and friendly. We went here several times during our stay in Piha for “basics” and to get fresh desserts, baked goods, or pastries. Be aware that they do NOT sell beer, wine, or other alcohol. BYOB when you come out to Piha"
