"Ive hiked the orongorongo track to the orongorongo river, plus the big bend trail, then the whakanui to wainuiomata. Orongorongo trail is easy return from the catchpool carpark. Big bend also fairly easy trail. Whakanui requires fitness and good legs. All three of these trails well maintained. Check the DOC website for all three trails and take the correct clothing! Orongorongo river not always safe after rain. Note catchpool carpark gate ia automated - dont hang around near closing time! Public (flush) wc available south side of catchpool main carpark."
