The New Zealand Institute of Architects
About the Business
Welcome to The New Zealand Institute of Architects, located at 253 Ponsonby Road in Auckland, New Zealand. As an establishment and point of interest, we are dedicated to promoting and celebrating the field of architecture in Aotearoa New Zealand.
At The New Zealand Institute of Architects, we pride ourselves on our commitment to excellence in architectural design and innovation. We are thrilled to announce that Oliver Wainwright will be speaking and serving as the MC at our upcoming in:situ 2024 event, a gathering that brings together industry professionals and enthusiasts to discuss the latest trends and advancements in architecture.
We are also excited to have Liam Wallis as a guest speaker for the Resene Sir Ian Athfield Memorial Lecture, a prestigious event that pays tribute to the late Sir Ian Athfield and his significant contributions to the architectural landscape of New Zealand.
In addition, we recently announced the shortlist for the 2023 New Zealand Architecture Awards, showcasing the best architectural projects from across the country. These awards highlight the talent and creativity of our local architects and their ability to shape the built environment.
One of the notable figures in New Zealand architecture, Friedrich (Fritz) Eisenhofer, recently passed away. He played a crucial role in introducing modernist design principles to residential architecture during his 70 years in Aotearoa New Zealand. His legacy continues to inspire and influence architects in our country.
We also strive to provide valuable resources to the public, such as helping individuals find registered architects or practices in their area. We believe that investing in an architect is the best decision one can make when it comes to creating a beautiful and functional space.
Furthermore, we ensure the legitimacy of architects by providing information on who can call themselves an architect and how to verify their credentials. This ensures that clients can trust the professionals they choose to work with.
Our commitment to excellence extends to all regions of New Zealand, as we celebrate the best architecture from Te Kāhui Whaihanga branches and honor outstanding projects through various regional architecture awards. From charming base camps to vibrant structures and breathtaking homes, we recognize and applaud the exceptional work of architects across the country.
We also acknowledge the winners of the Waikato & Bay of Plenty Architecture Awards, which showcase a diverse range of projects, including tiny timber dwellings, tremendous civic buildings, and everything in between. These awards highlight the talent and vision of local architects in these regions.
Additionally, we celebrate the winners of the Local Awards, which recognize outstanding architecture projects at a regional level. From a heroic education center on a marae to a surf club that has become the heart of its community, these projects exemplify the transformative power of architecture.
We invite you to explore our website to learn more about the incredible work being done by architects in New Zealand. You can also watch videos and lectures featuring renowned architects like Nicholas Stevens and Gary Lawson, who have made significant contributions to the field.
Lastly, we are proud to present the Sir Miles Warren Award for Commercial Architecture, recognizing exceptional commercial projects that demonstrate innovation, functionality, and aesthetic appeal.
Thank you for visiting The New Zealand Institute of Architects. We are dedicated to promoting excellence in architecture and look forward to continuing our mission of inspiring, educating, and celebrating the architectural community in Aotearoa New Zealand.

"I was sent a link to a file for a contract document which was buried in the invoice receipt of payment. This link sends you to a site that explains (over several pages) how to store the file in order to access it. I would have preferred a file that i could open with a click!"
