About Plimmerton Beach
Welcome to Plimmerton Beach, a stunning coastal destination located at Porirua, Sunset Parade, 5 in New Zealand. As an establishment and point of interest, Plimmerton Beach offers a remarkable experience for visitors of all ages.
One of the key highlights of Plimmerton Beach is its exceptional water quality, which has passed water quality tests at least 95% of the time. The latest sample, taken on September 1st, 2023, confirms this status. The Swim Guide - New Zealand regularly updates the beach's status based on the latest test results, ensuring that visitors can enjoy a safe and clean swimming experience.
Plimmerton Beach at Bath Street is sampled weekly from November 1st to March 31st, providing ongoing monitoring of water quality. The Greater Wellington Regional Council oversees the water quality at popular swimming beaches in the Wellington region, and the data sourced from the LAWA Can I Swim Here? website ensures accurate and up-to-date information.
To determine water quality, predictive modeling is used year-round, specifically focusing on the level of Enterococci, a faecal indicator bacteria that indicates the presence of harmful pathogens. Plimmerton Beach is represented by a GREEN swim icon on Swim Guide if the latest Enterococci predicted result falls within the guidelines (0 - 280 Enterococci / 100 mL). However, if the predicted result exceeds the standards or there is a temporary water quality issue, the beach is represented by a RED swim icon.
LAWA recommends avoiding swimming for 2 - 3 days after significant rain, even at sites with good water quality. It is also advised to check that you can see your toes in knee-deep water as a general rule of thumb. The LAWA website provides comprehensive information on current warnings and alerts, weather conditions, tides, real-time water temperatures, available facilities, and the monitoring history at Plimmerton Beach.
At Plimmerton Beach, your safety is our priority. We encourage you to report any pollution concerns you may notice, so that our Affiliates can promptly address them and ensure the safety of all beach-goers.
Please note that while Swim Guide provides the best information available at the time, it is important to always obey signs at the beach and follow advisories from official government agencies. Stay alert and be aware of other swimming hazards, such as dangerous currents and tides.
Visit Plimmerton Beach and enjoy a memorable beach experience amidst the pristine beauty of Porirua.

Reviews of Plimmerton Beach
"A great rocky beach to explore."
"Peaceful and beautiful. Good chip shop and cafés nearby. Great to walk along. Stunning!"
"Lovely accessible beach with a view of the South Island on a clear day. Ideal for a short walk, to sit and relax, perhaps have a quick picnic meal of fish and chips from Plimmerton Fish Supply. Keep an eye out for the mannequin in the window of one of the houses: what outfit will she be wearing today?"
"Great place for an evening walk. Nice view of bay, mana island, and south island on a fine day. Really lovely sunset"
"Plimmerton has a great local beach. The water is usually calm and it is really shallow for a long way out. It is a sun trap in the afternoon, offering very little shade. We love it in a morning as it is quieter. There are rock pools for the little adventurers and the bigger adventurers can launch kayaks and paddle boards here. One end has a public toilet and there are a variety of cafe's on the main street just one road back. Plim is great."
