Wellington College
About the Business
Welcome to Wellington College, located at 15 Dufferin Street in Wellington, New Zealand. As an establishment, point of interest, school, and university, we are proud to offer a diverse range of educational opportunities for students of all ages.
At Wellington College, we embrace the motto "Lumen accipe et imperti" which translates to "Receive the light and pass it on." We believe in the power of education to illuminate minds and create a brighter future. Our mission is to provide a welcoming and inclusive environment where students can thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.
One of the highlights of our academic calendar is the derived grade examinations, which will take place from the 1st Friday to the 11th Monday of September. These exams are crucial for our senior students as they serve as a backup in case they are unable to sit their NCEA examinations in November. They also provide valuable insight into areas where students can further improve before the end of the year. The exams primarily cater to Year 11-13 students, but some Year 9 and 10 students may also participate if they are studying NCEA Level 1, 2, or 3 subjects.
The examinations will be held over a span of one week, with most exams lasting three hours and starting at 9 am or 1 pm. In the event that a student misses an exam, they are advised to contact their class teacher and seek assistance from the Head of Department or their Deans. Students with scheduling conflicts are encouraged to make alternative arrangements with their teachers, giving priority to digital or practical exams.
We understand that some students may have commitments outside of school, such as regional or national sports tournaments. For those who miss an exam on September 1st, a catch-up slot will be allocated on September 11th. During the derived grade examinations, all NCEA Level 1, 2, and 3 classes will be suspended, and senior students will only be required to be on-site for their scheduled exams. However, teachers may organize tutorial and workshop sessions for certain classes, which will be communicated directly to the students.
In addition to our academic program, Wellington College offers a wide range of co-curricular activities and sports. With over 30 different sports available, students have the opportunity to explore their interests and develop their skills. These activities play a significant role in student development and enhance their overall learning experience.
Established in 1867, Wellington College has a rich history and is one of New Zealand's most distinguished high schools for boys. Our school buildings reflect this prestigious heritage while providing a modern and successful learning environment. We are committed to delivering authentic, community-focused learning that is culturally responsive, relational, and adaptive.
We invite you to explore our website for more information about Wellington College and the opportunities we offer. Whether you are a student, parent, or community member, we look forward to welcoming you to our institution and helping you embark on a transformative educational journey.
