About the Business
Welcome to Unichem Pharmacy, located at 71 High Street in Lower Hutt, New Zealand. As a trusted establishment, we are dedicated to providing quality health and pharmacy services to our valued customers.
At Unichem Pharmacy, we believe in rewarding our customers for their health and beauty purchases. With our loyalty program, every 150 points earns you a $10 voucher, allowing you to save on future purchases.
Exciting news! Prescriptions are now free at our pharmacy. Starting from 1st July 2023, the Government has eliminated the $5 co-payment charge for prescriptions from approved providers. This means you can now receive your fully funded medicines for free, accompanied by professional health care and advice from our knowledgeable staff.
In addition to our pharmacy services, we also offer consultations for minor health conditions. Our team of experts is available to provide you with the necessary guidance and support for any health concerns you may have.
As flu season approaches, it is essential to protect yourself. Getting your flu vaccine is one of the best ways to stay well during this time. Influenza can easily spread through talking, coughing, and sneezing, but with the vaccine, you can significantly reduce your risk of contracting the flu.
We understand the importance of safeguarding vulnerable individuals, such as newborns or adults with existing health conditions, from highly contagious diseases like whooping cough. Our pharmacy offers resources and support to help prevent the spread of this respiratory disease.
Unichem and Life Pharmacies are proud to offer COVID-19 vaccinations and boosters. Boosters are now available to anyone 16 years and older, with specific timelines for each age group. Check with your local vaccination pharmacy for the availability of pediatric vaccinations.
To make managing your health easier, we have developed the FREE Unichem & Life Pharmacy App. With this app, you can conveniently order repeat prescriptions, receive medication reminders, and even manage the medications of your loved ones.
Flu vaccinations are now available at many Unichem Pharmacies across New Zealand, including some locations that administer shots to children aged 3 years and over. We address common questions about influenza in children and the flu vaccine to ensure you have all the information you need.
We understand that accessing healthcare can be challenging, which is why we offer HouseCall, an online GP service. This platform connects you with experienced doctors, providing medical advice and guidance at your convenience.
In stressful situations such as contraceptive failure or unprotected sex, our pharmacy is here to support you. We offer emergency contraceptive pills (ECP) to help reduce the risk of pregnancy and provide peace of mind.
In addition to our healthcare services, we provide a digital photo service that ensures your passport photos meet the necessary requirements. Our trained teams adhere to New Zealand Government regulations, guaranteeing a hygienic and safe environment for your ear piercing needs.
If you're unsure whether your symptoms indicate a cold or hayfever, our handy table can help you differentiate between the two.
Lastly, if you're planning an overseas trip, we offer a simple guide to provide you with peace of mind before you go.

Reviews
"Pleasant, helpful and answered all my questions""
"She did not have the product I was after, so she convinced me to buy another band she said would have the same effect. It was useless, a waste of money."
"Terrible service and dismissive staff who didnt know how to do their job. 40 minute wait and didn't get what I came for in the end. In comparison, I was in and out of Life Pharmacy in 15 minutes with everything I needed when I went there afterwards. Save your time and emotional energy and hop down to Queensgate instead."
"This is only the third negative review I have ever felt warranted making. But necessary for the pharmacist in question to address both her customer service skills and decision making processes regarding the dispensing of pharmacist only antihistamines. Her approach was a combination of dismissive, rude, diminishing, made far too quickly without all the information and not customer centric focused. Her immediate go to was "No". Who I do give 5 stars to, is the pharmacy manager, Duncan and his response to my complaint via phone. He was warm, reasonable, solutions focused, apologetic and open to feedback regarding the situation. Due to personal circumstances, that was my only chance that week to get help with the antihistamine that works for me. Both upsetting and unnecessary stress. I sincerely hope this provides a valuable learning experience for the pharmacist in question."
"Really disappointed. Called my Dr first thing this morning to organise an urgent prescription, I arrived here after work to be told that I would need to come back tomorrow because they didn’t have my prescription ready and they were closing soon. This was horrifying as I explained that I would probably struggle to make it through the night without my medication. They asked me to call my Doctor and have them confirm that they sent it through, which they assured me they had, but sent it through again. When I finally received my prescription, I started to drive away only to realise they had given me the wrong persons medicine. I’m not a Karen, nor someone who complains, but this is the 3rd time that this has happened with these guys. It’s completely unprofessional. What if I hadn’t turned around and given you back that persons medicine? Would they be told the same thing? It’s a disappointing experience, the service was blunt and rude and the efficiency is below par. Medical practices should be doing better, for somewhere that raves about their quality service and reviews, I think they really need to step up there game, when I was struggling to breathe and waiting for my prescription, I was just asked to wait until tomorrow as it “wasn’t urgent.” Lack of care is honestly shocking here."
