"Friendly and helpful people. Very good price to stay a night. Just a street off Queen St. So very close to the action. Awesome. I enjoyed my stay, so thank you."
"The room was ok. I had a double with an ensuite, which was nice. My main complaint was the kitchen. It was disgusting and filthy. I boiled the kettle to make some tea, but there were no mugs. The kitchen is unhygienic and so poorly stocked. I was locked out of my room when my card stopped working at one point and the reception was closed. I could see that someone was in the back room, but even though I called out and rang the bell, they ignored me. I finally had to go around and pound on the door to get their attention. The reception was often closed, even during normal business hours. They certainly weren't busy cleaning the kitchen!"
"Run down hostel with its location being the best thing. Rooms were OK, decent beds but limited storage. Bathrooms never felt clean. Rooms at back of hostel next to very noisy generator that came on around 7pm each night. Kitchen was poor - no freezer, most gas hobs didn't work, old/broken pots and pans and often no washing up liquid. Common area / kitchen have no windows so absolutely boiling during the day but it was large with plenty of space. Some receptionists very helpful others very rude and passive aggressive. They gave keys to our room to new guests who were checking in who walked in on us one evening which should not have happened. Luggage storage available but anyone could walk in off the street into it. Building itself is old and run down. Didn't feel too noisy which was nice. The best thing going for this hostel is its location - really central and close to everything you need in Auckland including trains and buses. You pay for the location not the facilities. Overall probably wouldn't book again."
"Badly maintained hostel, very little work has gone into making this a functioning hostel. The kitchen is at a very bad standard of cleanliness - partly because of the kitchen itself, the appliances and not enough bowls, cultlery and cups but also because of guests leaving out dirty dishes all the time with sinks being filled with food and dishes. Dishwashing liquid is also rarely there and the fridges are all full. The bathrooms are also quite disgusting and unclean. The key cards you are given to access the room often do not work and you are unable to get in. The many times this happened to me I have to go to reception and they simply said yes we know it’s a problem and would do a quick fix but many guests had this issue and it is unacceptable that they are aware of it and do not fix it. The rooms themselves are okay, comfy beds but very very hot even on cold days. I expected better from a YHA."
"I booked a room with ensuite which was ok, small as I expected, but adequate for one night. There was a large wooden unit along one side with a clothes rail but no clothes hangers provided. The bathroom had a modern toilet and handbasin, but old fashioned shower. No soap dispenser provided which I kind of expected in this type of room. The bed was comfortable. Cleanliness was ok, although a bit of mould on the shower curtain. Service is poor. The staff were slow and sullen at checkin, not at all welcoming. There is supposed to be wifi, with signs all around giving the password, but it really only works in the communal area downstairs. When you sign in it tells you there is a limit of 5GB per day, but due to the difficult access, I bet nobody uses even near that allowance. The location is good and central, and it's a pity this place isn't better. Overall it was poor value for the price charged."
