The Duke of Wellington, named after the victorious general of the Battle of Waterloo, holds a special place in history. Beyond his military triumphs and iconic snazzy boots, the Duke was known to appreciate the company of interesting and beautiful people while enjoying a hearty meal and a refreshing beverage. Legend has it that upon arriving in Te Whanga-nui-a-Tara (now Wellington) in 1787, he longed for a local brew and a delicious pie.
To pay homage to the Duke's legacy, we have created The Duke of Wellington Gastro Pub in the very spot where he first landed in what would become Wellington. Our establishment offers a wide selection of delightful local beverages and delectable, hearty meals for you to savor. Step into our stylish and welcoming surroundings, gather your most intriguing and attractive friends, and embark on a memorable experience with us.
While historical evidence may be scarce, we invite you to embrace the spirit of the Duke's adventure and enjoy the rich atmosphere and offerings that the Duke of Wellington provides. Come and join us, and let us transport you to a time of camaraderie, good food, and great company.

"Booked to go before an event, to be close to the Stadium. What a mistake. Service was not what we expected. The table we got happened to be in a poor location. Wait staff seem very inexperienced or just poor at communication. One could not even understand us at all? The burger is a no-go. Seriously, both our patties tasted like boiled mince with no real flavour. Have you heard of the maillard reaction? Even the fries that you have to pay extra for were absolutely horrible! Like they had been baked multiple times, and just over-cooked. The best part was having your card taken "to open a tab at the bar", which screams to me that something was not right, looking back now. Then, as soon as I paid, my bank blocked my card for potential fraud. This screams dodgy stuff happening here! You guys better get your $h!t sorted out. You will never see me there again... Update for owner: I don't have to unblock my card each time I have used it at a Bar or Restaurant (in fact, I have never had to, and this was the first time it has happened) so the fact that it happened this instance was not a good experience. Fact: Banks don't randomly block cards. There must be a pattern of behaviour that was picked up. And the fact that the message from the bank specified the transaction at The Duke as the reason for blocking the card, there was no question about my understanding. Sorry if I hurt your feeling(s), but with the number of things that did not go well for us, I cannot put it down to being "too busy". If you're booked to capacity, then you should be able to prepare for that. Bottom line. And the fact that your food is over-priced while being horrible is just another jab. I didn't have time to negotiate with staff that hardly understood me (I didn't have Google translate this for me). This may just be a one-off occurrence for you, but it left a horrible taste in my mouth, literally and figuratively. There are too many good experiences elsewhere in Wellington that have been much better than this."
"BEST PLACE EVER. Staff? Superb, friendly, helpful, relaxed. Food? Exquisite, beautifully presented without being pretentious, great price point, good portions. Location? Love it! Not on the waterfront but so close to, so it's not as busy, great for a quiet meal or drink. The decor is lovely, chic, clean and airy. If you love Gin you Have to visit this place!! Two pages of gin served 3 clever ways. Beers are great with a mix of classics and craft, local and specialities. A good range of non-alcoholic drinks and great coffee too. Open from early to late. We were on Wellington for 2 days and ate at a range of places, my only regret is that we went anywhere else, the Duke outshone every other eatery and bar in every way."
"Very friendly and fast Service. Nice ambiente and very delicious food but not large portion. I would fully recommend this place if you look so.ething for food and drink."
"A simple lunch with a friend today. We still got a best service, delicious food with 2 free rose. Thank you for letting us had a great time."
