Passo, meaning to pass, stop by, or drop in, is not just a name but a representation of our commitment to leaving a lasting impression. It is the nickname of our local chef and restaurateur, Michele Passarello, and the original name of the street his family has called home for generations. It is also a symbol of the indelible mark we aim to leave on your dining experience.

Michele, hailing from the ancient city of Agrigento in Sicily, has a deep-rooted love for food. Since moving to Aotearoa, he has dedicated his life to sharing his cuisine and culture with the Kāpiti community. Passo is his newest venture on the Coast, offering authentic Italian dishes such as pizza, pasta, secondi, contorni, and more. These dishes are reminiscent of the ones his Nonna used to make, but with a modern twist that incorporates new flavors and techniques.

Passo is more than just a restaurant; it is a place to gather and enjoy genuine hospitality, great food and drinks, and a warm, friendly atmosphere. We take pride in using traditional Italian and Sicilian recipes, while also incorporating the best produce that New Zealand has to offer. All our pasta, pizza dough, breads, and sweets are made in-house, just like Nonna used to make at home.
