Originally known as the Bridge Inn, the timber building was a popular spot in town. It even housed a brewery owned by Fitzgerald, who later went on to form Castlemaine Perkins. In 1861, the inn was renamed the Newbridge Hotel, and in 1914, the current building, constructed by Albert Strode, was erected.
