At Toowoomba Haematology, our dedicated team of doctors, including Dr Joel Collins, Dr Marcus Dickey, and Dr Stephanie Wallwork, are experts in the management of all aspects of Haematology, including blood cancers and other blood disorders.

Founded in 2017 by Dr Joel Collins, our practice was established with the vision of providing a specialized haematology service right here in Toowoomba. Dr Collins, with his background as a rural generalist, recognized the unique needs and challenges faced by patients from regional Queensland and New South Wales. However, as we began our journey, we discovered that Toowoomba boasts a remarkable community of skilled specialists, generalists, and nurses who can support a Haematology practice comparable to those found in capital cities.

Driven by the goal of offering the same level of services available in Brisbane, we have made significant strides in realizing this vision. In fact, we are proud to have treated the first patients with leukaemia locally, with curative intent, starting in 2020.

As our practice continues to evolve, we remain committed to meeting the needs of our local community. In 2021, we launched our iron infusion, anaemia, and venesection clinic, providing rapid access to these essential services. Our clinic specifically caters to patients who have traditionally faced difficulties in accessing these services, such as those without health insurance, pregnant women, and young people/adolescents.

To further enhance our patient care, we welcomed Emma (RN) to our practice in early 2021. In her role as an advanced practice nurse, Emma provides invaluable support to our patients throughout their diagnosis and treatment. She also manages our infusion and venesection service, ensuring seamless and efficient care.

In 2022, we expanded our practice into a group practice with the addition of Dr Marcus Dickey as our second haematologist. Dr Dickey, who has completed significant portions of his training in Toowoomba, has chosen to settle permanently in the area with his family.

At Toowoomba Haematology, our primary objective is to utilize our internal expertise to manage patients locally, eliminating the need for the majority of patients to relocate to Brisbane for their treatment. We are dedicated to providing high-quality haematology care, tailored to the specific needs of our community.
