Furneaux Restaurant & Comptoir
About the Business
Welcome to Furneaux Restaurant & Comptoir, located in Saint Helens, Australia. Our establishment is a point of interest for food lovers, offering a unique dining experience inspired by the finest local produce.
Our journey begins with Stefaan Codron, a talented chef from Belgium. Stefaan's culinary passion started at a young age, and he honed his skills in a local Belgian bistro. He then pursued formal training at the Hotel school in Koksijde and further developed his expertise under the mentorship of Michel Lorain in France. Stefaan's love for French cuisine and quality ingredients led him to Australia, where he spent 13 years as an executive chef with Hyatt. He later worked as a development chef for Lite n' Easy and Domino's Australia, showcasing his culinary talents on a global scale.
Jonathan Wong, born in Malaysia, discovered his true passion for food while studying electrical engineering in the United States. He made a bold move to Brisbane, Australia, leaving behind his IT consulting career to pursue his love for French and European cuisines. Alongside his commercial kitchen experience, Jonathan also runs his own food styling business. His dedication to creating dishes out of love and his sweet tooth led him to become a development chef for Domino's Australia and New Zealand.
Rhiannon, a local girl, grew up in St. Helens and developed her passion for hospitality after finishing college in Launceston. She gained valuable experience working in various establishments, including Tidal Waters Resort and Farm Gate Cafe. Rhiannon's dedication to customer satisfaction and her love for ensuring a warm and welcoming atmosphere led her to join Team Furneaux as the Front of House Manager. She takes pride in delivering impeccable service and treating every customer like family.
Jordan, a young Tasmanian, always dreamed of becoming a chef. His passion for food was evident from a young age, as he spent time in the kitchen with his mother, creating wonderful meals for their family. After exploring other career paths, Jordan realized that his true calling was in the culinary world. He started his journey at a local fish and chip shop and eventually became an apprentice chef at Furneaux. Today, Jordan works alongside Team Furneaux as a fully qualified chef, contributing to the creation of impeccable meals.

"This restaurant is raved about as one of the best in the area of NE Tasmania. It was quite good, but for the very high price we were not that highly impressed. I couldn't say we would go again but would recommend to anyone in the area to try it for the quite good French cuisine."
"We found this little restaurant enchanting .It is easy to drive by this place and dismiss it .But the locals know a diamond in the rough. We went Tues night and it was fully booked .The staff were attentive without being intrusive they were welcoming and friendly .The food came out in a timely manner and was of the highest quality and cooked to perfection .The head chef came and mingled with the guests to answer any culinary questions and to ensure everything was to their satisfaction. The meals were delicious and the portions generous. All the flavours were perfectly balanced. If you are visiting St Helens this is a must eat.Make sure you book well in advance"
"Fantastic French restaurant in beautiful St Helens. I was lucky to get a table here after someone else has cancelled on the day. So it is worth booking early as it is extremely popular. Great food - enjoyed every dish."
"We booked in advance, though did not receive confirmation - I had to call. They said they would call the day before as well, we did not receive any call. The food is cooked well - chef has skills. There isn't much deviation/imagination, with the result being classics cooked classically. What you get is very good value as well. With regards to the building, the extension is cheaply done and shows (not insulated well, cracks, spiders), and the decor is dated/gauche (that tall chef hat? the paper table cloth on top of the cloth? the crystal lantern is just a bit much). A little bit of polish and this would be a diamond, but for now it remains in the rough."
