Under the profound spiritual guidance of Vajradhara 12th Kenting Tai Situpa, Pema Donyo Nyingche Wangpo, Palpung Australasia is dedicated to preserving and disseminating the teachings of the Palpung lineage. This lineage traces its roots back to the 8th Kenting Tai Situpa Chokyi Jugne, who founded the renowned Palpung monastery in Tibet in 1727. Over time, Palpung monastery became the seat of the Tai Situpas and the Karma Kagyu mother monastery in Kham, Eastern Tibet. Currently, the 12th Kenting Tai Situpa resides in Palpung Sherabling in India.

The name "Palpung" signifies the glorious union of study and practice. "Pal" represents the glory and "Pung" signifies the gathering of knowledge and wisdom. Palpung is renowned for its rich tradition in practice, study, and ritual, serving as a center for living art and culture.
