"I love the co-operation between teachers and families to achieve the best outcome for our 4 children. Their different learning styles are all well understood and nurtured. We would happily recommend Foundation Christian College."
"When I first came here, I was proud of this school, sure I wasn't Christian but it stood for good things. Then I hit year seven, and it was a downward spiral from there; lots of good teachers, but a handful of megalomaniac ones. I often felt like I was in unable to do anything that went anywhere to be rid of such obscene, unacceptable behaviour when it occurred. You agree when you come to respect the religious values and I tried to, aware that it was my decision to be there, but sometimes you were outright asked your opinion on a topic, and if it wasn't the students' or teacher's opinion it would not end well. It disappointed me that in all my time there, 'gay' is used as an allowed insult, and in all my years I have only heard ONE teacher (one of the good ones) say 'That is NOT an insult.' Though some elements of the 'homophobic' school story were blown out of proportion and you were vilified, I am still so disappointed with how badly this school has gone. My respect for authority and elders is always adequate, but beyond that my respect is earned, and some teachers here lost my respect entirely. Since moving schools I have since realised even more how trapped I felt, and how blatantly out of line they were on so many occasions. I can talk to my teachers respectfully as equals, whereas here they expect you to give the work and effort of an adult and have the 'seen and not heard' ideals from childhood. Though there were many good times and bits of fond nostalgia, the good does not make up for the bad. Since my original review I have received an apology which I will accept, but I had only wished it had come when I had been disregarded in those times. I will leave some constructive criticisms for your consideration: 1. Allow for opinions: if it is said 'write and essay on YOUR beliefs on a topic', or you are asked blatantly, or someone is outright disrespected, you cannot expect them to not react or do so. There is a difference between respecting beliefs, and respecting people more, such as when students rip into a horrible demonisation of the LGBTI community or abortion for example, without being respectful enough to understand these things are not as simple as they seem. 2. Respect your students, and their privacy: without us, you have no institution. Some of us may be disrespectful or immature but as a majority we mean no harm, we just want to live and receive an education. Do not disregard our concerns. Do not unjustly value the opinions of teachers worth more than a handful of trustworthy students. Secondly, privacy. Since hearing what my current principal once said I have grown to like it 'your business outside the school is your business, but once it hurts any student coming through the gate then it is ours too'. Social media is not your tool to spy on your students, as you so made me feel. Please refrain from doing this regarding school, unless someone is in danger. 3. Stick to the core subjects: I previously have made clear how much I disliked your 'big ideas' course. If you want to run it, that's fine, but do not make it mandatory. Make it an optional choice that you may go to a class to revise or work on assignments, or go to that course. Personally, I felt like it was a waste of time, which made it very hard when I woke up in the morning to answer 'why even bother going? I'm not learning anything'. 4. Review your staff: Now I know almost all of the FCC staff are quite lovely, however as I said there is a handful that I personally think should not be allowed anywhere near young, influential children to spread such horrible views and archaic notions (not talking about religious notions, just his twisted, perverted version of how he interpreted it). Please remember how teachers pose themselves to you and to students are very different things. 5. Teach both sides of history: most teachers have done this, such as my last science teacher, but again some may shoot you down if you ask about the evolutionary side of science. You disservice any student who will one day leave for another school or uni. - Emily"
"Foundation Christian College is not just a school its a community.. Over the last 9yrs I have been grateful everyday that my children are able to attend such a great school... Yesterday my 13yr old was asked if she liked her school, her reply was " I love it, I wouldn't want to go anywhere else".."
"We have been connected with Foundation Christian College for 11 years. We travelled Australia looking for a new place to live and came back here because we knew what a great school Foundation Christian College is."
"I'm a straight man whom works in the construction industry. I am personally disgusted with your actions & have the view that God loves everybody and everybody should live & let live. If you want to take tax payers money, accept what the public expects & deal with those whom are not "mainstream". It's not the kids fault whom her parents are & homophobic behaviour has no place in today's society."
