About Flinders University Northern Territory Medical Program
Welcome to the Flinders University Northern Territory Medical Program, located in the beautiful city of Darwin, Australia. As a renowned establishment in the field of health education, we are proud to offer a comprehensive training program for medical students.
The Northern Territory Medical Program (NTMP) is specifically designed to provide top-notch training to Flinders University medical students. In addition to this, we also coordinate placement opportunities and offer support to allied health students and interstate medical students.
Our flagship program, the Doctor of Medicine (MD), is offered exclusively in the Northern Territory (NT) through the NT Medical Program. With pathways available for both school leavers and graduates, you can complete your medical training right here in the NT.
At Flinders University, we understand and appreciate the immense contribution that Indigenous knowledge and Indigenous doctors make to the health of our country. Our dedicated team, comprising of both Indigenous and non-Indigenous staff, will guide you towards a greater understanding of this rich heritage and teach you how to work safely and confidently in a multicultural society.
One of our key goals is to build a strong rural and remote health workforce. To achieve this, we offer innovative clinical placements, giving medical students the opportunity to study for an entire year or more in remote areas. This hands-on experience is invaluable and sets our students apart.
In 2011, we proudly enrolled our first batch of 24 students in the medical program at our state-of-the-art building located at Charles Darwin University campus. We also have an administration center and teaching rooms at the prestigious Royal Darwin Hospital, along with established teaching sites in Alice Springs, Nhulunbuy, Katherine, and Tennant Creek.
We take immense pride in the quality of education we provide to our students and the support we offer to the medical and health workforce across the Territory. Our curriculum delivery is innovative, utilizing the latest technologies to ensure high-quality education in a variety of settings. From our main campus in suburban Adelaide to Nhulunbuy, one of the most remote medical program sites in Australia, we strive to provide the best learning experience possible.
As part of the Flinders University NT initiatives, we offer Northern Territory Government bonded medical places, which may be available to students. These places are associated with a four-year Return of Service Obligation (ROSO) in the NT after graduation.
Whether you are an Indigenous applicant looking to study medicine in the NT or a school leaver without a previous academic record, we have pathways that cater to your needs. Our internationally recognized Doctor of Medicine program is taught across multiple locations, including Darwin, Alice Springs, Katherine, and Nhulunbuy. We have particular strengths in Indigenous and rural health and workplace development.
Flinders University is dedicated to creating an inclusive and supportive environment for all students. We believe in the power of diversity and the importance of cultural sensitivity. Our Indigenous and non-Indigenous staff work together to ensure that you are equipped with the skills to thrive in a multicultural society.
If you are ready to embark on an exciting journey towards a career in medicine, we encourage you to explore the opportunities available at the Flinders University Northern Territory Medical Program. Join us and become part of a community that values excellence, diversity, and the health of our nation.
