About Aquascene Fish Feeding Sanctuary & Cafe
Welcome to Aquascene Fish Feeding Sanctuary & Cafe, located in the tranquil tropical waters of Darwin's Doctors Gully in Larrakeyah, Australia. Since the early 1950s, a unique and natural phenomenon has occurred here during high tide, making Aquascene a must-visit tourist attraction.
Established in 1981, Aquascene has become a magical experience that attracts over 70,000 visitors annually. It has gained widespread media coverage both nationally and internationally, captivating people of all ages. This wonderful sanctuary offers a safe and enjoyable environment for families to have fun and is especially loved by fish enthusiasts.
Feeding the fish at Aquascene is an absolute delight, and the kids will be thrilled! You can choose to feed them from the comfort of the concrete stairs on the viewing platform or wade into the water and let them tickle your feet as they eagerly vie for the bread you offer. Rest assured, it is safe to wade among the busy feeding fish as they have no teeth or dangerous barbs. However, we advise caution during the box jellyfish months of October to May and recommend staying no deeper than knee-deep in the visible shallow waters.
Aquascene is open during high tide, providing a unique and magical experience for all. Whether you are a fish lover or simply looking for a fun and safe activity, this sanctuary is a must-visit. We welcome group bookings and can accommodate your needs.

Reviews of Aquascene Fish Feeding Sanctuary & Cafe
"It sounds a bit naff, but it's well worth a trip as there's something quite cathartic about feeding fish (and ducks), which are in abundance during high tide. Yes, you can call in "out of hours" but you'll not see a lot, as the fish know when it's feeding time. There's plenty of space and bread aplenty and the staff are friendly and helpful. There's a fantastic amount of fish to spot, including a huge red tailed catfish in the mangrove pond by the toilets, though he's hard to spot."
"This was by far the best experience I had on my holiday in Darwin!!! It was so much fun. It was like nothing I’ve ever done before. The lady that ran the morning session that I attended went above and beyond to answer any questions, help with feeding and just had exceptional customer service, that you don’t see very often these days. I would go again and again if I could. Highly recommend for animal lovers and kids. I’m all for ethical animal encounters, and I highly appreciate that the fish are not trapped, they can come and go as they please and they are in their natural habitat. What an amazing experience."
"What a fun and unique experience in Darwin! We started our visit to this city with a trip to Aquascene and it was a lot of fun. Once you pay the entry fee, you’re given an unlimited amount of food to feed the fish. Granted, the food (bread) prob isn’t the healthiest, so that’s def something they could work on. There were multiple areas to feed the fish, including places where you could “toe feed,” which was def an experience in and of itself. We were initially nervous about crocodiles, but the staff assured us that this was not an issue at the site. The staff member who was working Tuesday was also amazing—she def made the experience special. She was very knowledgeable, helpful, and eager to teach the visitors about the different types of fish and the local environment. Overall, really unique experience and something that I’d recommend."
"Great spot for a visit to watch the huge schools of fish feeding and you can hand feed them or just watch from the many viewing seats. Coffee shop on site for snacks and drinks. The guide commentators are great."
"Amazing to see so many fish naturally in the one spot. Great way to nature at its finest, learning about tides. Ample bread is provided for feeding. Attraction only opens when the tides start to rise, basically early evening if you wanted to plan for your day/visit. Staff are knowledgeable and friendly."
