About TIO Stadium
Welcome to TIO Stadium, the premier outdoor stadium in the Northern Territory, located at Abala Road, Marrara. Formerly known as Marrara Stadium, this establishment was built in 1991 to primarily cater for Australian Football. With its unique Territory feel, TIO Stadium offers open-air viewing and traditional football sights from the grassy mounds, providing an authentic experience for sports enthusiasts.
At TIO Stadium, you have the opportunity to watch AFL games in various comfortable settings. Whether you prefer the air-conditioned corporate box, the Kantilla's members' bar, or the premium viewing alfresco wings, you can enjoy the excitement of the game in style.
Not only does TIO Stadium host one Toyota AFL Home and Away game per year, but it also welcomes NAB AFLW games. Additionally, the renowned wet-season Northern Territory Football League (NTFL) season primarily takes place here, and it serves as the home for the AFL Northern Territory administration team. TIO Stadium is also the home ground for NT Thunder, which competes in the North East Australian Football League (NEAFL).
TIO Stadium is not only a hub for Australian Football but also a venue for concerts and major events in the Northern Territory. It has hosted annual NRL home and away fixtures for the Territory's 'home team,' the Parramatta Eels, as well as a Rugby League World Cup Quarter Final in late 2017. Entertainment spectacles like Elton John, Nitro Circus, and the Crusty Demons have also graced this iconic stadium.
In November 2016, AFLNT and Territory Insurance Office (TIO) announced a $1 million, 10-year extension to the naming rights sponsorship of TIO Stadium. As a naming rights partner of both the TIO NTFL and TIO CAFL competitions, TIO continues its 26-year involvement and support of football in the Territory until 2026.
When visiting TIO Stadium, you can expect excellent facilities and amenities. The Maurice Rioli Grand Stand offers seating for 4,550 spectators, and there are food kiosks and canteen facilities available. The public bar ensures you can enjoy refreshments during the game, while the exclusive Kantilla's Members' Bar on Level 3 provides a premium experience. Public toilets and disabled access/seating areas are also available, with lift access to Level 2.
Parking is convenient and free, with approximately 325 spaces in the main car park at the Bonson Gate end. Please note that TIO Stadium is a smoke-free venue, and smoking is only permitted in designated areas. If you prefer public transportation, the number 5 bus service operates along Abala Road, with a stop directly at TIO Stadium.
We invite you to experience the thrill of Australian Football and enjoy the vibrant atmosphere at TIO Stadium. Whether you're a die-hard fan or simply looking for a memorable event, TIO Stadium is the place to be. Reviews of TIO Stadium
"Nice stadium. Decent size seating capacity. I watched T20 cricket match at night. The lighting and ground facilities were great."
"I’m only sharing details of my experience of the last two AFL matches I’ve been to. My first NT AFL experience was last year Suns v Hawks. What a disgrace. Indigenous people drunk and arguing everywhere. Stood 10ft away from a full on fist fight which saw 2 people hospitalised and included 2 guys stomping on an unconscious persons head, yet there was no security and police took at least 10 mins to arrive. Families with children were literally walking past. Anyway this year I thought I’d buy the $250ea McMhanons stand tickets to avoid this behaviour that Darwin is all to used too. There were exactly 13 tables, each with 2 stools for the 120 or so people that bought tickets. The 3hr food package consisted of microwaved sausage rolls and fridge cold sliders. The 3hr drink package started at 7pm and at 9.15 we were told the bar was closed with a full quarter of football to go. 75% of the tables and chairs were taken by a closed off group of approx 30 people, which after many complaints they tried to mitigate by bringing out plastic chairs. In summary I don’t know who organises this joke, but the AFL, the NTFL and TIO stadium all need to do MUCH better."
"Seat are better in general administration. Stand are tight packed as a standby but in Darwin it’s to hot for that. Also not enough screens for games to watch cross field action"
"Had a great night at the footy, excellent venue and a very well organised bus schedule"
"Didn't get into the main stadium but watched my team on the pitch next to it They had some permanent shade spots and stands but you need to get there early to get a seat under one Most people just brought their own camping chairs and the unofficial uniform of yeti drinking bottle You can access the cafe and toilets at the main stadium close and lines move quick No hot food available by the time I got there but they had chips and and ice cream stand"
