Established in 2002, Carbal Medical Services has become an award-winning community-responsive Aboriginal Medical Service (AMS) with clinics, services, and programs operating throughout Toowoomba, Warwick, and the Darling Downs.
At Carbal, our team is committed to delivering the best possible medical and community services available, aiming to dramatically improve the health outcomes for our mob and future generations. We offer a range of services, including doctor and GP appointments, 715 Health Checks, and support from our dedicated Aboriginal Health Workers. We also provide affordable and central temporary accommodation through Carbal Digs for eligible patients.
But our commitment to the community doesn't end there. Carbal is actively involved in various community support programs, such as Strong Families and the Marlu Youth Program. We believe in fostering a strong and healthy community, and we encourage everyone to find out more and get involved with these programs.
Carbal also plays a crucial role in supporting eligible NDIS clients in their homes and communities, helping them achieve their everyday goals. We understand the importance of providing assistance and support to those living with complex conditions, which is why we offer services such as Chronic Disease Coordination, Outreach Workers, and Transport Services.
If you have any questions or would like to learn more about Carbal Medical Services, please don't hesitate to get in touch with us. We would love to hear from you and discuss how we can support your healthcare needs.
Lastly, we would like to acknowledge and pay our respects to the traditional owners of the land on which Carbal is located, the Jarowair and Giabal people. "This Clinic would seem to take no responsibility in their Duty of Care towards Clinic Patients or their welfare. As background to this complaint, my daughter suffers from severe depression and anxiety as well as other serious health issues. She was a patient of clinic Doctor, Dr A, in the interest of privacy I’ll refer to the doctors as Dr A, B and C. Dr A left the practice without notice, so last week, my daughter had an appointment with Dr B to get repeats of scripts for specialised medication. Dr B is not certified to prescribe this medication; however he took detailed notes, and did his best to help her. He told my daughter he would pass the information on to the other practice Doctor, Dr C, who she could see for an appointment on Monday (yesterday) to get the repeats for her scripts. Dr B discussed this arrangement with one of the office staff while my daughter was there and it was confirmed that this would be okay. My daughter arrived at the Clinic at the time requested to wait to see the doctor. The Office Staff were hostile towards her from the time she arrived. She was told bluntly that Dr C was currently not taking new patients and that she would not be put on the list to see him. She was not listened to and her explanation of why she was there was not believed or totally disregarded. My daughter was told she could wait and one of the staff would ask Dr C if he would see her. She waited while other patients were continually added to the appointment list and told off if she asked about being seen by the Doctor. All the time, my daughter was getting more and more distressed by her treatment. She was lectured too by Office Staff in front of other patients making her feel embarrassed and more distressed. She felt like she was being discriminated against and like she wasn’t worthy of being treated at this Clinic. The Office staff had multiple opportunities to ask Dr C if he would see my daughter, however it took them 3 hours to get around to doing this. I have no doubt that they didn’t bother to explain to Dr C that Dr B had organised for my daughter to see him and he refused to see my daughter. As a result of this appalling treatment, by the time I spoke to her she was feeling so emotionally unstable that I was concerned for her welfare. In her words she told me that ‘if I’m not worth being treated by a doctor I should just give up, stop trying to fight the bad thoughts’. For the record my daughter didn’t want Doctor C to take her on as his patient, she just wanted repeats on one of her medications for which she had the approved authorities that had been completed by Dr A. This would have given her the time to find another Doctor before her medication ran out. I am appalled that staff at a Medical Clinic could be so uncaring, unhelpful, and judgmental."
"Medical staff, including nurses and doctoring treatment team, simply inadequate for trained professional's. Reception doesn't seem well organized."
"Wow! Amazing service, best I've seen in my many years on the planet. None of this under 15 mins out the door and pay as you go stuff. Everyone seems genuinely interested in your health and they don't rush and give you plenty of time. Addressed all my issues, put me on a plan. Absolutely wonderful! I have only ever heard good stuff about this place. A pity to see someone in the comments wasn't happy but you can't please everyone!"
"This organisation is a pure joke. I wouldn't take my worst enemy there, some really nice people work there with compassion, but the main actors who run the show are nothing but dingoes. Facts."
