About Mount Whitfield Conservation Park
Welcome to Mount Whitfield Conservation Park, located in the heart of Tropical North Queensland, Australia. This establishment is a true natural gem, nestled amidst urban development. As you step into the park, you'll find yourself surrounded by lush rainforests, interspersed with pockets of eucalypt forests and grasslands adorned with cycads. It's no wonder that this park has become a beloved escape for both hikers and locals seeking respite from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.
For nature enthusiasts and adventure seekers, Mount Whitfield Conservation Park offers a plethora of opportunities for outdoor recreation and educational activities. As you embark on the two linked circuit tracks, you'll ascend the forested slopes, eventually reaching lookout points that offer breathtaking vistas of Cairns city and suburbs, Trinity Bay, the verdant coastal mangrove forests along the Barron River, the airport, and the stunning northern beaches.
We are committed to preserving and protecting our environment and heritage within the park, so we kindly ask visitors to follow the guidelines on caring for parks. Mount Whitfield Conservation Park was officially designated as a conservation park in 1989 and is jointly managed by the Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service and Cairns Regional Council, with a focus on nature conservation and nature-based recreation.

Reviews of Mount Whitfield Conservation Park
"It was fantastic. I enjoyed spending my weekend up the mountain with nature and my God. I experienced love of God in the nature."
"This is such a beautiful nature walk up through the rainforest, up a mountain to see beautiful views of Cairns airport, beaches and city. There are lots of stairs and paths. A great place for a once off visit, or many people use it for exercise everyday."
"I love walking this range with friends. It's a fairly easy walk and we walk, talk and laugh. So good for our wellbeing"
"Consisting of many trail walks and treks with different color representing different difficulty levels, must tell you, Mouth Whitfield Conservation Park is Damn Beautiful. We would definitely list it under one of the best and Must Dos."
"We did the red arrow and blue arrow hikes. The red arrow was paved and had defined steps which is good if you’re going to jog along it. The blue arrow trail is more technical and took us about 3 hours to complete. Recommend having good hiking boots to do it as it was muddy/slippery in a number of places and a lot of the trail involved walking over/on tree roots. Don’t start it too late in the day as it gets darker earlier when under the tree canopy. The photos are from the lookout at the top of the blue arrow trail."
