The pool area is such a tropical escape with a feel you are in the jungle. Serene and peaceful. The rooms are clean and come with accommodation that makes you feel at home. Reviews of The Lilybank Stratford
"The most beautiful place to stay when we arrived to Cairns from the UK! The bedrooms are spacious, clean and tidy and so are the private en-suites. There are plenty of communal areas such as the large kitchen, indoor living area with sofas and an outdoor area by the swimming pool. Each bedroom is also allocated a private outdoor space which is nice too. Felicity the owner is such a lovely lady who helped us organise a few things once we’d arrived. There’s a stand with lots of attraction information if you’re looking for things to do and the other people staying in the house are super helpful with things like that too! In terms on transport, Ubers are easily accessible as the LilyBank is fairly close to the airport. There’s a bus stop approx. 1 minute walk down the road to get the bus into Cairns City which costs around $3. I highly recommend this lovely place."
"My partner and I went on holiday in Port Douglas. Due to a really early 6am flight in Cairns, we decided we would stay in Cairns on our last night to be closer to the airport. I called the Lilybank Guest House to see if we could book a room such short notice, Jeanette was very friendly and helpful over the phone and it was a hassle-free booking. She was flexible with check-in times and even offered for us to leave our bags there if we arrived early so we could walk around without lugging around 2 large suitcases. Upon arrival, we were warmly greeted and payment was hassle-free. Jeanette even booked us a taxi to take us to the airport at 4:30am the next day! The room was quaint but perfect for an over night stay. The room was equipped with a folder full of information including a WiFi password, amenities that were available such as towels/mozzie coils/bug spray/pool facilities. In this folder there was also information on nearby stores, restaurants, etc. with menus attached. This also included bus timetables/schedules and where to go. A very pleasant experience. The house is beautiful and picturesque."
"We arrived about 4pm and accidentally parked out the back. There isn't any signs or markings to suggest where to park. We were greeted by the owner and shown to our room. The house is quite large, beautiful and quite open. There is a nice multiple 'living' style space with couches and 2 verandas, one overlooking the front and pool and one overlooking the back. Being an open style house, there was plenty of cracks for mozzies to enter the rooms. The pool was small but ok but although the surface had some bugs, bird feathers and debris floating in it. The jet of fresh water shown in the pictures was not active. The water looked a bit stagnant and didn't seem chlorinated. There were pool towels, bug spray, sunscreen and incect repellent available near the pool. The room was definitely very small, the bed was comfortable but there was this weird rumbling sound, that also shook the house every hour or so. As a light sleeper, it unfortunately woke me up a few times. The afternoon we arrived the hot water in the shower was turned off but it worked fine in the morning. There was a dispenser with very little body wash, shampoo and conditioner in the shower. For the "complimentary" continental breakfast, provided was a bowl of canned fruit salad, two half used loaves of toast - one was raisin toast, 3 small containers of oats with what we assumed was a dollop of yoghurt on top and a bowl with single serve spreads. There was no fresh fruit at all and no cereal options. There was coffee, milk and sugar available on the side of the room but I don't recall seeing tea. This was probably the most disappointing thing - in fact it was worse than an average complimentary breakfast in a cheap backpackers. For the price of the room - $120 for a very small Queen room with a tiny ensuite - we did expect something different. The landlady did come up to the room to ask if something was wrong with the breakfast since we did not touch any of it, but my partner doesn't like to be a complicated customer so we did not say anything at all. Considering it is a "bed and breakfast" one doesn't expect breakfast to be of such low quality even if it is termed "complimentary". These days people also have all sorts of preferences which are so easy to cater to - gluten free, dairy free and so on. The bread was only normal bread and the small cereal bowls had already dairy on top. A few fresh fruits - I mean, we are in the tropics after all - and a choice of cereals with a couple of milk options would be the very least. We ended up having breakfast in the cute village down the road. The proximity of cute local shops and even a large food market with also fresh smoothies and juices to the house is definitely a bonus. The first night we also ventured to the Thai restaurant which is about 10 minutes walk from the door and apparently is quite popular as suggested by the landlady, and it was indeed great food with nice service. Overall we loved the location - but definitely if you have a car given the distance from the city - and the local village, the house is very pleasant, but improvements to the pool quality and a complete overhaul of the breakfast options are highly recommended to justify the actual price during low season. I need to add that my partner woke up with at least 10 massive bites of some mozzie or bug on her shoulders and neck. Would we stay there again? With better breakfast and pool presentation or a price that reflected the actual offer, why not. For the same price and amenities provided though we would probably prefer a different option in town."
"My partner and I arrived late after our flight to find all the windows and double door opened as well as the lights on. Thus we were greeted by a swarm of insects flying around the lights and a massive cockroach entering the living area. Not a great welcome.Thankfully the bedroom lights were off but we found animal droppings on the dressing table. The decor needs an upgrade and the breakfast was very basic. The bed was comfortable and the pool looked inviting. I think there is a lot of potential here but at the moment it is not a 4 star experience."
"My Partner and I stayed at Lily Bank for a week. We were very Impressed with Our stay there. We were made very Welcome by the Manager Jeanette and nothing was a Problem. She goes over and beyond to help in Any way and it felt like We were staying with Family. I truly hope the Owners realise what a True Gem they have in Her. It is a Beautiful Old Queenslander with History and We both felt very Comfortable there. Our bed was So Comfortable and the room nice and Homely and clean. Thank You Jeanette for your Hospitality, You Truly made Our Stay."
