About Townsville Stinger Net 1
Welcome to Townsville Stinger Net 1, located at the stunning address of Townsville City, The Strand. As an establishment and point of interest, we are proud to be a part of The Strand, a 2.2km world-class beachfront promenade that offers endless enjoyment for locals and visitors alike.
The Strand is a paradise custom-built for leisure and recreation. Along this picturesque stretch, you will find palm tree lined bike and walkway paths, safe swimming beaches, charming picnic spots, playgrounds for the little ones, exercise stations for the fitness enthusiasts, and a plethora of restaurants and bars with breathtaking water views. It truly offers the best of all worlds.
One of the highlights of The Strand is the free family fun at The Strand Water Park. Kids will have a blast cooling off with thrilling slides, water cannons, and more. If you prefer a more relaxed experience, you can choose to fish off the pier, go for a jog along the paths, or simply laze on the beach and soak in the million-dollar views of Magnetic Island.
For those seeking a stinger-free swimming experience, we proudly present The Strand Rockpool. This stinger resistant seawater pool is located on the northern end of The Strand and offers easy access to a range of facilities. With its gently sloped design, it provides a shallow area suitable for wheelchair access and children, leading into a deeper pool for swimming. It's the perfect place to enjoy a picnic or BBQ and cool off for free!
Strand Park is another family-friendly space within The Strand that caters to everyone's needs. With its sprawling grass playing field, half basketball court, playground, and accessible beach, Strand Park is ideal for the active beachgoer.
At Stinger Net 1, we prioritize safety during the stinger season, which runs from November to May. Stinger nets are installed at various Townsville beaches, including The Strand North and South, Pallarenda, Balgal Beach, Horseshoe Bay, and Picnic Bay. These nets are only removed once the stinger season ends and no stingers are caught in daily net drags for 14 consecutive days.
We also strive to ensure that our beaches are accessible to all. Wheelchairs, prams, and strollers can access Townsville's beaches on mats provided at designated locations.
To further enhance safety, our dedicated lifeguards are on duty at specific times. Roving Lifeguard services commence at 9am and end when the Strand Water Park closes on weekends, public holidays, and Queensland holidays. On other days, they conclude their services at 5pm. Please note that lifeguard availability may vary during certain periods, such as the July 2023 School Holidays.
For specific beach conditions, please refer to the lifeguard schedules. Some beaches have lifeguards present throughout the year, while others have lifeguards only during specific periods, such as Christmas and Easter holidays or weekends from November to May. Stinger nets are utilized on certain beaches for added protection.
Please keep in mind that lifeguard services and stinger net usage may vary depending on the beach. Some beaches may have multiple lifeguards, while others may not have any lifeguard service at all. It is always important to be aware of your surroundings and follow any safety guidelines provided.
We hope you have a wonderful time at Townsville Stinger Net 1 and enjoy all that The Strand has to offer. Whether you're seeking adventure, relaxation, or family fun, our institution is here to provide you with a memorable experience.

Reviews of Townsville Stinger Net 1
"The walk along the strand is a lovely experience, specially in the evening. Seems to be one of the happening places in Townsville. The scenic beauty is just awesome with the lovely beach and magnetic Island visible in the distance. There are a lot of relaxed cafes along the way and very good public amenities."
"abandon hope ye whoever swim here - for thy aint prepared to become a salties meal"
"Absolutely awesome experience, warm water, Stinger net for protection, swam every day. Will be back!!!"
"A relatively safe place to go swimming and escape the heat, usually patrolled by lifeguards. Townsville doesn't have the nicest water, it's not usually clear, and unless there is a cyclone nearby we don't get any real waves, none of that is the fault of the Stinger Net."
"Nice chilled out spot . First beach ive been to since arriving in Townsville"
