It is with a heavy heart that we announce the closure of our maternity service from 1 November 2023. Despite our best efforts, we have been unable to recruit the necessary specialist obstetricians and paediatricians needed to ensure the safety of both mothers and their babies. Ensuring the safety of our patients is our utmost priority, and without an adequate number of qualified doctors, we are unable to maintain the high level of care that we believe is essential.

We understand that this news may be disappointing and distressing to some patients, and we want to assure you that we are working closely with our obstetricians and expecting parents to ensure a smooth transition and proper care during labor. We have partnered with Cairns Public Hospital, who have assured us of their capacity to support additional births.

While we are saddened by the end of our maternity service, we want to assure the local community that we remain committed to providing high-quality private healthcare in Cairns. We are currently undertaking a $20 million development project to create two additional operating theaters and a state-of-the-art sterilizing department. Additionally, we have recently acquired land for future expansion, installed solar panels to reduce our carbon footprint, and expanded our services to include community psychology and allied health services through Ramsay Psychology and Ramsay Health Plus clinics. Furthermore, we have invested $500,000 in equipment to enhance our expanding ENT service, including the addition of two new ENT surgeons.

Our After Hours GP Clinic at Cairns Private Hospital offers convenient access to trusted local general practitioners. This appointment-based service operates on weekday evenings, as well as weekend afternoons and early evenings.
